question about fuel injection

What year did they start using fuel injection in the Rangers?

i thought it was 87, same year as FI mustang 4 bangers. I could be wrong.

in '85 the 2.3 was first upgraded to FI. then in '86 the FI 2.9 replaced the carbed 2.8.

then how is it i had a carbed 2.3 in my 86 stang? and why did ford go from the 2.3 -2.9 back to the 2.3?

because its a mustang, not a ranger? perhaps its a model year '86 that was built in '85? i dont know why to tell you the truth, fords done some weird things over the years....but FI was definitely AVAILABLE in '85.

and ford didnt go from the 2.3 to the 2.9 back to the 2.3, bother were available at the same time. i was giving FI introduction dates for the 4 bangers ('85) and the v-6's ('86).

In the mid 80's ford was selling ten times as many Rangers as they were selling
Mustangs.

Thus rangers had priority on the better engines

The ranger got EFI going into '85 on the 2.3
The mustang didn't get it until two years later.

the same thing happened again with the introduction of the 2.3DPIS engines
as the Rangers got the speed desnsity version of that engine in '89
and the Mass Air version for 1990 while the mustang lagged a year behind.
while the mustings were used to "use up" the supply of the earlier
version of the engine.

Ford at the time was selling something like 800,000 4cyl rangers a year, compared to around 120,000 mustangs.

at the same point Rangers were making ford a larger profit per unit.
