He has a blue '93 Splash w/ flareside bed:headbang: He says it has the 4.0, but he has been wrong about vehicles in the past, I know their base engine was the 4-cyl while the Edge's was the 3.0. Is it possible that it could in fact have the 4.0? He says the 4.0 was the biggest six ever made, in a way he is right, lol.

I've seen 'em, it was an option. Only way to find out is look at the vin or pop the hood. 4.0 intake is bent over so the runners are longer, and the vin has an X for the motor.

heres a picture of the 4.0 in my '93 ranger, im not sure what the 3.0 looks like in comparison, but maybe this pic will help.

Back in the mid 90's you could nearly order a ranger to spec, they had every option available from 2wd 4.0L 5 spd reg/short, to 4wd 4 banger excab and all in between.

the 3.0 of that era does look similar. Also his truck has auto trans and NO tach.

All of that is meaningless to figuring out which engine he has. My boss has a 95 Splash (converted to a Pink Floyd) with a 4.0.

Pop the hood, find the sticker with the vac routing. That will tell you the engine displacement. It's in the fine print near the year so look closely.

not sure about the ranger chassis, but i did have a '93 taurus and it had a 3.0 it also had a distributor, dont know when the 3.0 went to distributor, but the 4.0 has never had a distributor, just the crank pickup and coil pack. so if it has a distributor, its a 3.0 (unless its a distributor-less 3.0, but they have the coil pack in a different spot)

The Vulcan and Essex engines still had distributors in 93. Not sure about the Essex, but the 3.0 Vulcan when to coil pack in 95.

The 3.0L from 93 looks like that but the intake has kind of a curve to it and it has 6 distinct runners to the lower intake, they are one after another like a washboard.

Also quite obviously the oil filter will be on the left side of the engine and visable from the top and the 4.0L has it in the same location as the 2.8L/2.9L on the right side below the exhaust manifold.

I believe that the 3.8 used a dist up to 97 because that was the last year of the MN-12 T-bird/Cougar, the Vulcan Tauruses got a coil pack starting in 96. I think that's funny that the Ranger went to coil pack a year before the Taurus, because the Vulcan IS the Taurus engine!

The Ranger went to OBDII a year early. I think the Taurus lagged behind. I know Ford converted in stages.
