how would i remove and install a passenger side non opening quarter window for an 88 ranger xcab? i looked in my haynes manual and it says take it to a shop.

take the rubber trim ring off, it should just pry out.

If the window is held in with a gasket like the rear window, a string and some dish soap will be needed. you will have to use a small screwdriver or similar to get it poked through, get a helper and then run the dishsoap lubed string around the gasket until the window pops out.

if it is glued in, you will need a string or similar that can cut the adhesive, and you will work it the same as above, but instead of prying the gasket out, you will be using it to cut the adhesive.

Good luck.

If you are going to replace the glass due to scratches or updgrading to pop out style, it might be just as easy to heave a brick through it :)

It is NOT held in by the rubber ring.

the window is BOLTED in from the back side.

there are four 11/32" (9mm) nuts on the back side

You MAY be able to flex the interior panel enough to get at the nuts but it's generally easier to remove all th screws to tilt it out of the way enough to remove the nuts.

why do you want to remove it?

Replacing it with hinged windows?

Frankly it's been several years since I opened mine.
they aren't great for ventilation, they ARE great for allowing
road noise inside the car.

well i dont currently have one in my truck and i needed to know how to remove one at a junkyard and then install it in my truck. and i didnt use a brick i used a hammer to remove the old one. i was on a date last year and it was going crappy so i got drunk since i figured that way i would at least enjoy the date and then went out and sat in the truck listening to the radio after it was done while i waited on my mom to come pick me up since i was drinking and then i got tired so i laid down in the bed to sleep until she got there and locked my keys in so i broke the window to get in

As Allan said, it is bolted in and it is sealed using butyl tape.
