Alright guys I'm new here and i need some help. I searched and couldn't find anything. I have a 94 4.0 5 speed that doesn't have ac. I'm looking to convert to ac. I work at a junkyard so getting parts is easy. So basically I need to know what I need for parts to convert. 92 degree weather in ct sucks :thumbdown:

I think I have photos someplace of the AC stuff laying on the floor of the garage. You can snatch it all off without breaking system integrity so you don't need to recharge it. That would be the easy part. I presume the wiring harness is the same just a different control unit in the dash. Beyond that should be pretty much plug and play. Of course you will need to grab the compressor mount and the longer belt from the donor too. I think you may have to add a relay in the box under the hood and a fuse or two also.

I'll look on my laptop and see if I have the pics of the entire AC system when I get a chance.

If you work at a wrecking yard , the parts you need are pretty obvious.
Heater box , a/c pump , lines and condensor . Wiring harness to the compressor.
Inside you need the hvac control panel.
The electrical harness is installed from the factory , and all you need are the short harnesses.

I installed an aftermarket conversion A/C in my '91 (same dash and other components) years ago. You will only need the box on the engine side of the firewall, hoses and compressor, mounting, fan shroud if not equipped, and condenser. The control head is the same, just a different fan switch with the push on/push off feature for the compressor, and an LED glow light to show the compressor on. My kit came with a new face overlay marked different (genuine Ford part)(Max A/C rather than OFF) and the "lens" for the A/C on light. The new switch was a Motorcraft replacement item for A/C models. I like my aftermarket unit alot, it is a 134a model and uses a thermostat icing switch and expansion valve rather than a pressure cycling switch and orifice tube.

I pulled the system out of my '91 ranger without disconnecting and losing gas. It did take awhile. Here's a couple of pics;

Alright I'm gonna check tomorrow on the whole system and hopefully one of the rangers we have still has everything I need and the lines haven't been cut or mangled.

Actually now that I think about it, we only have 3.0 and 2.3 rangers. I'd assume the 2.3 won't have the same compressor bracket? Will any year explorers work also?
