Fellow Rangers I have a 1996 XL 3.0 Vulcan 4WD. This engine has served me well (sad they are not making them any more) over 200K and going strong but for how long??? Have decided when it goes I am putting a mitsubishi 4D56-T diesel in its place. Apparently it bolts right in but the confusion lies in the transmission. :icon_welder: The current transmission is the mazda M50D-R1
Now I can't be the first one to do this so maybe someone has the answers to my questions as i have been unsuccessful finding them on the net.

1. Will the 4D56 bolt up to this tranny?, if not is there someone that makes and adapter kit?
2. Should it be impossible and I can locate a mitsubishi FM-156 will there have to be modification to accomodate that transmission ie bolt on to frame, extend driveshaft? and most importantly operate the 4WD?
3. Is there other options out there?

Remaking the wheel and the mental damage would be aleviated if someone has already been thru this. Any help would be appreciated.
