I finally got around to rebuilding a fm146 for my 92 ranger 4x4. It use to have a fm145 but I couldnt find another one and grabbed the fm146 from a bronco ll. Well I got it in today and went to hook up the driveshafts and the rear was to long and front was short. Then I went to hook up the transmission crossmember and that was in the wrong spot to. That I will just move but im not sure about the driveshaft problem. I was also wondering if there will be anymore problems I will be encountering later.

IF your Ranger HAS an FM145 in it someone swapped in in before you got it because the last year for the FM145 was 1987.

The FM146 replaced it in 1988.

easy to spot by the curved shifter vs. the fm146's straight shifter

Yea I put the fm146 in it because thats all I could find in the junkyard. The frame and drivetrain is an 86 because I totalled my 92 frame when I hit a bear. so I just switched my body over and made it a 4x4. If you look at my profile pictures you can see. Well I got it all in there and the clutch line that goes in the tranny broke. might have to pull the tranny again. Got the rear shaft shortened and I think I can get the front from a bronco ll if Im not mistaken?

alright thanks for the help man. Going to the junk yard now. Last night when I got everything going and the clutch slave line back on and bled I started it up and it had a hard time going in first and reverse. Then when I took it out of gear and put it in nuetral the truck moved forward, stopped and the clutch started pouring smoke as if it wasnt disengaging. Could this be the slave thing and throw out bearing in the transmission? or do you think it is in the tranny?

That stupid hose was like 60 bucks from ford so I just cut it reheated it and put it back together and heated it again. Now that I have to pull the tranny I might as well just buy a new one and be done with it.
