So, I am working on cleaning the intake and replacing the gaskets. With that said, there is some carbon buildup on the push rods and around the lifters a little. My hope is not to break her down anymore - no lifter ticks. Is there a product I can squirt/inject into the push rod oil hole and onto the lifters that would, after assembly of the intake, help release the gummed up parts?

4.0l OHV uses solid push rods, no tube down to the lifters

Oil comes up from cam shaft in a passage in the block thru head(bolt hole) and thru center rocker assembly tower(bolt hole) then is pushed out to each rocker.

If it ain't broke(no ticking) then don't fix it :)

Fair enough. Thanks!

Is it relatively safe to carb clean in the valley - around the lifters and push rods to get some gunk loosened up, or best to leave be and treat the oil after reassembly?

I would leave it, doesn't bother anything until you break it loose, then it can "bother" things, lol.

If you are dissembling the whole engine then yes you clean off everything, but until then its just a little extra weight and a sound damper :)
