Pulse plugs vs. Spark plugs?

I'm glad you guys understand this, it's all going over my head, LOL!

It sounds like BS to me, how can igniting the fuel 'more better' make the fuel burn with more magnitude:icon_confused:

That's why I originally said, any aftermarket company claiming a HP increase with an ignition product is a total scam!!! Combustion is like being pregnant, no such thing as a little bit pregnant!!!

Ouch, my brain hurts already. With todays ignition system, coil on plug, would we really need that type of pulse plug. Its bad enough that the 2.3L takes 8 sparks plugs.

Besides, spark plugs are becoming a thing of the past. Soon with Direct Fuel Injected engines, they won't have a need for spark plugs. But thats still way in the future. Of course, you could always trade up for a diesel.

Why wouldn't direct injected gas engines need spark plugs?

They would! Direct injection gas engines have been around a long time!
Mercedes had it back in the 50's with their 300SL.

That is what I was thinking, unless they somehow had it set up to run like a diesel or with glow plugs like a RC 2-stroke aircraft engine I don't see any other way to set the charge off.

The small RC 2-stroke engines with glow plugs are diesels......

BS .....all they are claiming is they are adding a capacitor which will discharge across the plug gap! What they don't tell you is the charging of the capacitor has to come from the coil, which will actually shunt the high voltage pulse from the coil.....again, total BS!!!

Explain "improving power"

These are the "performance mods" I find funniest of all...the mods that actually hurt performance.

I don't believe these will improve anything. Some of the reasons;

CD ignitions charge the cap BEFORE the ignition is supposed to fire.

The only time the cap in these plugs can fire is with the spark power that is already supposed to be firing the cylinder.

As stated before, the mixture either ignites or it doesn't. If a cylinder doesn't ignite, the ignition diagnostic monitor facility in the engine management system loses it's mind and will trip a code.

Speaking of the IDM, it interprets cylinder firing based on a voltage spike that occurs due to the inductive nature of the coil and plug wires. A capacitor "plays tug of war" with an inductor, changing the relationship between voltage and impedance.....even possibly setting up an unintended oscillation. The PCM would LOVE that [/facetious]

So, could it improve performance? Possibly. Could it trip codes in the PCM? possibly. Will these plugs cost you money? absolutely.

Why wouldn't direct injected gas engines need spark plugs?

I was thinking on the grounds, if you increase comperssion enough, it would self detention with a timed injection just before TDC. Then again, its the same thing as a diesel.

I was remembering an acticle about Ford's new EcoBoost engines.

I run OE Motorcraft plugs in everything I own. You can't go wrong with what the manufacturer has designed into your engine. I

Damn skippy.

You could always buy ONE and see if the other 5 sound like they're missing by comparison! But I'd rather not. Snake oil goes for big bucks now that gas has gotten so high. Buyer beware.

i think combustion chamber efficiency would have more to do with it than some fancy plugs.thats one of the reasons the flathead went by by
