I have found a 100,000 mile 3.0 vulcan in a 99 taurus at the local pullapart for under 150 bucks, but i have to pull it.So my question for who ever has done this or has a taurus sittin at home.which way is faster?drop the subframe or through the top with it?It should be a pretty straight forward swap after I get it pulled.Pull heads have machine shop check them out, check cylinders, rod /main bearings to specs, check cam to specs, reassemble with new gasket set, pull out ranger 3.0 swap accessories drop her in and be done.

to me it was easier to come out through the top. but i also needed the car to roll. if you drop it out the bottom make sure you unbolt the toque converter and mounts before it sits on the ground.

I know Its been quite a while since my 1st post but the weather finally broke enough for me to get my engine from pullapart. It is out of a 1998 windstar, 3 hours and $134 later it getting preped to put in the truck.I pulled the heads and the cylinders still have factory hone marks. The heads are at the machine shop getting checked out now.It only had 115,000 miles on it.
