Pulling Codes?

I have a '99 that the Check Engine light has come on. I have had this in the past. Looked at the manual and it said to check gas cap (for clicks,) check air filter (currently has a brand new one in it,) fill with quality gas (done that.) The light will turn off periodically, but then come back on. There appears to be a rough idle (not terrible or anything.) Of course, with seeing the light on, I may be imaging this. Otherwise, no problems with starting or running. I have NOT changed the fuel filter, but would be willing if it's not too technical.

I see lots of advice on the board about "pulling codes." Must I go to a dealer/repair shop for this...or...are places like NAPA, etc able to this...or...is there a way to do it myself? I just HATE paying dealer rates and they always want to keep the car for a couple days.

Thanks all!

the local autozone should pull them for free. then just post em up here and we can diagnose from there.

Got the codes pulled:

P1151

Definition: Lack of o2 switches-Bank 2 sensor 1
Explanation: ECM could not adjust the fuel trim because of a lean or rich condition
Probably Causes:
1 - Fuel pressure high or low
2 - MAF sensor dirty/defective
3 - Vacuum leek on engine
4 - Leaking fuel injector or fule pressure regulator

Autozone sold me a passenger side O2 sensor to replace. This thing is located on the passenger side exhaust. Basically, looks similar to an oversized spark plug with a cable connection coming off of it ($45.)

Sound right?

yep that sounds like the O2 sensor. it's the farthest one up. once you have it installed you will have to get the codes cleared or unhook your battery for 10 minutes or so.
