87 2.3 4x4. just want to know how to pull codes cuz it spits and sputters at about half throttle accelerating... just trying to diagnosis this issue

go HERE and follow the analog volt meter method, except you don't need the volt meter, connect the jumper then go sit in the drivers seat with a pen and paper, turn on the ignition and count the flashes of the check engine light.

where is that located? under the dash driver side by fuse panel?

so its obd1?

yep, OBD 1. It should be under the hood somewhere, I'm not sure on the placement on the older ones but it'll be near the fender probably near the rear. I'm not sure whether it's drivers or passenger side.

its passenger by air box..

dtc codes 90 22 and 98...

90- passed cylinder balance... no idea what that is

22- Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Higher Or Lower Than Expected

98- Hard Malfunction Present - Malfunction Mode Effects Management Mode

where is my map sensor? and how do i fix 98? and what the hell is 90?

your MAP code makes sense on the running issue, I would check the vacuum hose going to it.

I think it's mounted to the firewall going into the cowl, has I believe a 3 wire connector on it and a hose going from it to the vacuum tee on the intake manifold behind the throttle body, the sensor is about the size of a deck of cards, but doesn't look it recessed in the cowl...

i found it, there was a wire that broke from the motor bouncing around when the motor mount was broke. now i gotta fix the wire for the coolant temp sensor and the power steering pump pressure sensor :annoyed: where can i find a wiring digram for my 87 2.3 4x4?

check the diagrams in THIS PAGE as they're not only handy for turbo swaps... but that's how I found them :)

The wiring should be correct, but I wouldn't trust colors or anything, Ford liked to change odd things over the years

damn thats what i need is the colors. my PSPS is black with a white stripe. and goes somewhere on driver side.

then the coolant sensor is yellow with red stripe and cant tell where its supposed to go.

forgot to mention that the PO has some jacked wiring harness splices everywhere. so i dont know if they were purposely cut or broke when my motor mount was broken.

many colors stayed the same, if you find a wire that's the right color in the vicinity of where it should be it is probably right.

The changes I've found are between my '89 and '90 chassis swap, the chassis wire connectors changed pinout and gender between the two years... along with a few non sensible things

alright pretty simple fix then... maybe if i fix my coolant sensor it would fix my gas gauge. is that wire part of a circuit for that gauge cluster as in if i fix it helps my gas gauge?
