Pull the engine or not?

I just installed a 94 explorer engine in my 92 Ranger. It runs exceptionally great and passed emission test. As a precaution, I installed a new rear main seal and oil pump (with new pan gasket of course). Although it runs good and I hate to take it back out, it leaks oil around the oil pan gasket but not the main seal like I thought it might.

Someone PLEASE tell me if I can raise the engine and replace the gasket? The manual says to replace the oil pump, the engine has to be removed which is what I did to start with. It doesn't hurt to ask but I'm afraid I need to take the engine back out.

A Ford mechanic once told me that it's possible to take the pan off by lifting the engine.

Has anyone done this or attempted it before?

Yes, you can change the gasket by lifting the engine, although its a PITA, especially if you don't have a body lift...Glad it's stopped leaking :icon_thumby:

Had kind of the same problem....

Replaced the pan gasket with the engine off the truck, put it back in, bolt everything back up, fire the damn thing and it starts leaking!! :temper:

So I located the leak, which wasn't the rear main but right besides it in the oil pan... What I did was to ubolt the oil pan, bring it down about 1/2", clean the surfaces really good and stuck gray RTV in there... So far so good, have been checking it everyday and no leaks so far. So, short answer yes, it can be done. Is it painless?? No it's not....

But yeah I agree taking the engine back out would totally suck...
