Pull Start 351W

:icon_confused:

i cant believe this has become a seriously discussed thread!

im logging off to go back to pirate4x4 now!

:icon_rofl:

this is not a serious discussion.....it is a completely necessary discussion on which the future of the economy hangs (O.K. --- i didn't believe that my own self )

My old 48 Int'l cub tractor has a crank start in additon to the electric starter. Never had the balls to try it though.

later,
Dustin

Just make sure it is in neutral and don't wrap your thumb around the crank, hold it against your hand pointing the same way as the rest of your fingers. Stand back a way a little so if it does come back around it doesn't clobber your shoulder/hip and you should be fine. I have hand started my Allis C before, it is kind of fun once you get on to it. On old John Deere's you spin the flywheel, really fun to whirl one of them over with domed pistons... but at least there is no risk of kickback.

My grandpa broke his arm starting his old Chevy when he was a teenager though, it isn't nearly as safe as pushing the button or parking on top of a hill.

I wish i had a dollar for every arm thats been broke with the old crank starter.

must have been what that "extra lever" was for on my grandpa's steering column---moving it retarded the spark so much that it was less likely to kick back when hand-cranking the truck.....sounds like something Hazmat would say I would say:icon_bounceblue:
mikepotts: good to see you took another look--still hard to believe though--Right?!--shoulda seen me at the local airport when I hand- cranked that piston engine propeller plane--you don't get a second chance to goof up on one of those babies:icon_rofl:

hey since we are thinking "outside the box"... i had a epiphony!

how about mounting a seat on the front bumper and a bicycle crank on the front of the crankshaft, you could just pedal it to start! :icon_cheers:

now that just pure stupid.......wait a second........some kid left his bike in my front yard.....this could be a sign:icon_surprised:

Just forget the engine and pedal yourself around, it would really cut the fuel bill :icon_thumby:

It could work!:
