Hey all
I have a 99 ranger 4x4 3.0L Automatic, It got hot on me bout 3 months ago, I kept it running added coolant and everything was fine for awhile. Recently it started puking coolant out of the overflow bottle even bowing the lid off it. I raplaced the radiator cap and the thermostat. also noticed before i replaced the thermostat that the top radiator hose was completely collapsed as if it was being sucked tight together. any ideas why its puking?

Sure

Most likely you have burnt a headgasket. From not knowing how to fill your engine with coolant.
These vehicles have a STOP in the heater hose. To get the engine full you must turn the heat on and start the engine, and while the engine is warming keep the cap off and continue filling until the engine is at operating temp and the thermostat opens.. ONLY then will the system be completely full.

is true . I made the same mistake the other day on a truck friends. the best ways to fill the coolant is like says Big Jim

I did all that right, theres no water in the oil, theres no steam from the exhaust that smells likle antifreeze. it runs great. after you drive it awhile and park it has some back pressure from somewhere that blows the lid of the overflow bottle and antifreeze goes everywhere.

It's possible that you have a collapsing hose that's causing your engine to overheat. Does it build pressure when the engine is cold?

I'm guessing you have a bad head gasket.

I noticed that the top radiator hose was collapsed while checking it the other day, thats when i decided to change the thermostat. is that a sign of a blown head gasket?

I noticed that the top radiator hose was collapsed while checking it the other day,

The hose collapsed because the engine overheated and lost coolant which created a hot air pocket. When the engine cooled, the air in the system cooled and reduced it volume which created less pressure than outside atmospheric. Hoses are not designed to hold much externally applied pressure. If you release the rad cap the hose should reform it's shape. Look for water in oil, thick white smoke out exhaust, do compression test or an exhaust gas test on the coolant to determine if HG.

Thx Rearanger
there no water in the oil, no antifreeze steam or smoke out exhaust. I have it parked on an incline have the heater going full blast and added coolant to the radiator till it was full, and watched it for a bit. the coolant bottle is bout empty, do i add any to it? put the radiator cap on and letting the truck run to see what happens.

You can run the engine with the rad cap off til you see flow past the rad opening which will tell you the thermostat is open. That should vent most of the air, but be careful not to look directly over the rad opening just in case it blows some hot coolant. The coolant will expand and come out the rad opening, I'd then put the cap on tight and fill the expansion tank to the hot level line then let it run until it heats up to running temp by the temp gauge. Then shut it off and let it cool. If it needs more coolant the expansion tank will back drain into the rad. Once cool fill the expansion tank to cool level line and take it for a test drive with a container of coolant just in case you need to add more to the expansion tank. Never add coolant directly to a hot rad.

Ok well i took it for a drive, didnt overheat, didnt puke antifreeze out of the coolant bottle, But, there are small bubbles in the coolant tank when idleing with the heater on or off. i think im screwed? so if theres no water in the oil and not blowing antifreeze out of the exhaust how lond can i drive it till im in real trouble cause i dont have the money to fix at the moment? and what kinda money am i looking at to have the head gaskets replaced? thx for all your help i really appreciate all the responces

Not me!!

I wouldn't drive her out of my own driveway with bubbles in the coolant tank! You are sitting on a time bomb.. You are taking a huge chance with your heads by knowingly running that engine. Scrape a couple hundred bucks together and repair that thing!

Does anyone know of a good shop in Olathe Ks, I'm sure ford will want my right arm and left leg to do this repair? I would do it myself but am being schedualed for knee surgery any day know Thanks all

Well It was'nt the head gaskets after all, Just the intake manifold Gasket. I appreciate all the help, Thanks
