Just drained the D35 before i install it, and WTF there's dark grey pudding in there! I would think if it was watered down there would be more of a coffee/chocolate milkshake effect. honestly, i think it's safe to say this is the first time that diff has ever been cracked open since the assembly line in 91. is it normal for old fluid to get that way? the thing worked perfect and was dead quiet before i took apart the donor truck...

The fluid will normally turn some shade of grey. How dark depends on how many mile are on the fluid. It is a high viscosity too, so it should be fairly thick. A "pudding" effect can be caused by conventional fluid being mixed with synthetic.

Check the gears for signs of wearing and a glassy finish on the teeth and clean it all out very well before reassembly.
