Since I was just a young pup I've had 2 dream cars: 1973 Jeep wagoneer and a 1986ish B2.

Since this would be my daily driver also...I couldn't justify a V8. So I got the 1986 B2 :)

Wanted a rig for daily driving, camping, and Oregon snow.

I picked up one with a year old rebuilt transmission with about 1k miles on it and a newly rebuilt 2.9 that was just broke in. Also a year old 4x4 motor, tie rods, rear shocks, oil sending unit, water pump and a few other goodies. But it still needs some work and that leads to some questions.

1. The transmission shift handle is broken off. I tried to do a search on Google for a replacement but can't find any. Is the a site that sales one that would work? The button works just the handle broke.

2. The steering has so much slop. Which made the drive home over one of Oregon passes a nightmare during a snow storm. I can move the steering wheel almost a quarter before it responds. I'm thinking it's the power steering box but what else can it be?

3 I drive with a hand control(handicap) and the hand control just doesn't push hard enough to get passing gear to kick in. Is there a throttle control cable that I can adjust? I had to do that with my 1992 jeep wrangler.

4. When I start the B2 when it's cold it jumps between 1000 rpms to 1200 rpms then back too 1000rpms at least once some time 3 to 4. But once it warms up it idles fine and it never goes under 1000rpms. Is this normal for B2?

5. It needs new seats, can you guys recommend any?

6. Other things that need fix : cruise control( no response from the steering wheel), passenger window( goes up but very slowly and stops about 99% up ) any ideas on these?

It's gut less on the pass, loud, rattles, smells a little but I don't think I stop smiling during the 3 hour drive home when I wasn't white knuckle cuz of the steering.

Welcome, and congrats on the purchase. I just recently picked up an 84 Bronco 2 and its going to be a fun project.

Most of your questions I can't really help with but the gear shift question is a goto the salvage yard and get parts type thing. These vehicles are old enough that its going to be hard. You can get the gear shift lever off either another bronco 2 or even a ford ranger (both are basically the same vehicle).

As for the steering your steering gear box is worn out that's not the power steering unit.

Welcome to TRS.
2) could be tie rods, ball joints, bearings, anything that's worn out in the steering system. A knowledgeable friend or an alignment shop/mechanic.
5) a lot of ford seats will fit by changing the seat brackets.
Others will help on the other questions.
Good luck,

Richard

Also are ball joins bolted on for the 86? Just wondering what I should expect to pay a mechanic to replace them. Since I live in a apt with no garage.
