Project Trail Authority (Official Build Thread)

What part of Cali are you in? I grew up in the Napa/Sonoma area.

I did my axles pretty cheap, I think I had around $1500 into both of them. I got a good deal on the gear set-ups though. I really should have just bit the bullet and re-geared the Ex axle, I still miss that rig. Your truck makes me want a first gen though!

I'm in the Gay Area, right near Oakland which is where my GF is going to school (why we're here) but I work over on the Peninsula so I put a lot of miles on the 'ol Ranger.

Does the $1000 Include the purchase of the axles?

Sure does. $150 for the D35, and $75 for the 8.8

Yeah, there's nothing like a good first gen! Much like with your rig, I think the weakest link now, is the 2.9. When I blow it up, I gona just the the 4.0 swap. I think it's well worth the work.

No wonder you hate it so much there:shok: The east bay blows man. Anything near Oakland gives me anxiety. Ha ha. I use to friggen hate having to drive through the east bay.

Other than a few small details (reverse lights, fuel filler mount, and plate/stud for spare tire mount) I pretty much have the bed done:icon_bounceblue:

Welded on some end caps to all the exposed ends, mounted and hooked up my license plate light, mounted plate, finished the front bumper, added the tubes for the spare tire mount, cleaned and painted everything, and even got around to painting the leaves, and half the frame.

Here are some pics!

Next weekend, I'm off to the junk yard, and picking the disc brake assembly. All I have left is polishing off the 8.8, and this little bitch will be ready to kill some trails:headbang:

Nice!:icon_thumby: That's one heck of a deal, I hope i get a deal half as good as that.lol

Ha ha, yeah. I got pretty lucky on that one. If you shop around long enough on CL, eventually something will pop up. I realized, if you don't call right away, and go get it, they just disappear:annoyed: Best of luck to ya!

the bed looks great. painting did a lot for it.

you need to scrub that shit off the back of the cab.

Ha ha ha, I know! I knew someone was going to say something too:icon_rofl: The whole truck needs a good scrubbing pretty badly! I've just been busy with other things. Hell, I only spend three days a week at my house, and only one of those days is dedicated to the trucks:annoyed:

i hear ya, i havent worked on my b2 in months. it's just too damn hot here right now. i've been busy with work too.

just do what my neighbor does, when it starts raining he takes dish soap and squirts it all over his car and lets the rain wash it off. :icon_rofl: the ultimate in laziness. lol

Just gota get the brakes now, set my pinion angle, weld that bitch up, and giver her some paint!

Any ideas for the paint color? I was thinking Ford blue, but not quite sure. I don't want to go all black with it. The drive lines will also be a different color... Ideas??

Yeah the 8.8s go for cheap all day long but the dana 35 are like a needle in a hay stack:annoyed: But i'll find somethin.lol

I grabbed my D35 from a truck that got crushed by a tree for $50. My buddy and I took so much off that truck, we should have just bought it of the guy..

I like Ford blue for the cover, that or something weird like hot pink. My shocks on the Explorer were pink, and it totally caught people off guard lol..

Don't scrub that shit off the cab, just wheel it! Cover it with some mud, problem solved!

Ha ha! Around here, it's the apposite. I've been finding D35's all over the place, for much less than I paid. 31 spline 8.8's are going for like $3-400!! Friggen rip off if you ask me.

Yeah, there's a guy in Auburn that has the sway bars on his lifted Tahoe painted pink, and it definitely stands out. Ha ha

I think I'm gona paint the axle and drive lines, Ford blue, and keep the diff cover just the way it is. It actually looks pretty sweet.
