Project Primer! NO 56K

Dang that is what I wanted to do to my Ranger "5.0" or "460", but all I could trade for was a 92 Explorer.

Good luck with the swap

Robert

Thanks, The 4.0 is a great motor and I am sure you will be happy with it but the issue I was having was not with power it was of strength of the trans and the best way to get a bigger trans is to get a better motor!!

looking good bud

Thanks!

Does anyone know where to drill the holes for the 5.0 foxbody motor mounts?

Geeze... It's been awhile since I've updated this... Not much has been done... The winter was a bit to cold and snowy to put much work in on this...

As of now I have the motor sitting in the ranger... still need to drill holes for the motor mounts though.

I have a newer trans. 5 speed this time... M50D out of a F150... Not what I wanted but I got a good price on it...

I will hopefully be updated this a little more often now that I am in MI for work and pretty close to the truck...

Did some work finally...

engine is sitting in where it should be....

looking good buddy. glad to see your still at it

Well I got some more work done this weekend...

No pictures though, to busy doing work... I got the trans bolted up to the engine... that thing sure was a pain but luckily I had some help from a friend to get it in.

Since it's an M50D R2 from a f150 i got to use the same slave from a ranger which I happen to have a lifetime warranty on.... So I got a new slave, clutch and pressure plate all on as well...

Ya i am... I feel a lot better about it now that I have those things in... I just hate not getting to work on it every day... In about a month or so I will be back at school and will have tuesdays and fridays off and mornings on wednesdays... My goal is to have it done by mid to end of July...

Well I got some work done on wednesday...

I still suck and have no pictures...

I got the T-case in, That 1356 is one big motherf'er. I ended up "trimming" about an inch and a half by like 4 or 5 inches out of my frame just to fit that thing.

I also think I figured out what I need to do for my trans mount and drive shafts. The F150 front shaft looks like it will be about the perfect length for the front shaft in my truck(maybe shorten an inch). My rear driveshaft will have to be shortened about 5 or 6 inches. The ranger shaft and the f150 rear shaft are just about the same length. I think I am going to shorten the ranger one and use that. Maybe shorten both and have a spare just in case...

I am going to work on it again this weekend and hopefully I will take some pictures to full fill everybodies need to see pictures in build threads... haha... I know i do...

Well I got a couple pictures this weekend, brought my camera and the battery was dead so I have some phone pictures...

I got the trans crossmember in and a picture of my notched frame... I also realized my engine isnt perfectly straight but it should be fine... If it were straight it would require much more frame modifications for the 1356 to fit...

So wiring and driveshafts... and i still need to order a oil filter relocation kit..

So did you end up using foxbody mounts? I have a set, maybe I will use those on mine if that is what you did.

Yeah I did... Convertible fox body mounts or 94-95 5.0 mounts... I used chrisr1s's build for reference on where I drilled my holes... He was nice enough to take pictures of exactly where he drilled the holes on his.
