Project Primer! NO 56K

Well I got bored and needed to do some fabbing to relieve some anxiety I've be having the past couple days. Nothing like working on stuff to make you feel better.

Anyways I never liked that I didn't have any real front recovery so I added a hitch to my front bumper. I really need to start taking pictures of the process and not just the final product tho...

Well I got a set of doors from my friend that were in better condition then mine so i put them on and decided to make some half doors out of mine. I only have the drivers side done so far.

what did you use to paint your frame with

It's just under body coating.

Those half doors look great. Nice work!

Thanks, It really only took me like 8 hours total to make it. It weighs like 30 lbs less without all the power window junk and glass in them. I'm really happy with how they came out. It was a pain in the ass welding to the sheet metal with a stick welder tho... Now i just need to fab the passenger side. :icon_welder:

The reason why i needed new doors... the bottoms of these ones are pretty bad...

I also had some vinyl laying around so that got riveted on for some door panels.. mainly to get rid of the nastiness of the inside of the door...

Also cut out some inserts so i dont have to swap doors every time it rains.

Anybody have any good ideas of how to make these easy to put on and remove... I was thinking of some sort of snap on like how tonneau covers go on or maybe just Velcro...

you might go to a fabric store that deals with tarps and boats. get the heavy duty plastic that is used in boat tarps and jeep windows. than run snappa around the inside of the frame.

ya that's what i was thinking... i also havent decided that if i want to put windows in the inserts yet either...

those doors are awesome! and you prolly should put windows in, it would be awkward without em even if it is just when it rains.

thanks, ya its more so just to throw on when its sitting when it rains... I have another vehicle i can drive if its raining... I might throw windows in it so I can drive it well it rains tho...

I would just to the snap method.

Maybe put some kind of weather striping sealer stuff (the foam strip stuff like is around a trunk lid, kinda) and put that around the opening, then put snaps through that. That way when you snap the cover in place, it is mroe waterproof. Just a though, because I have no clue how it would work.

I tried doing the Velcro method on mine, and it might have just been the adhesive, but it stuck well for 10 minutes or so, then it would just fall off of both the plastic tarp stuff I used, as well as the door.

Ok How skilled are you? and how do you feel about zippers? MY thought is cut a frame out of heavy canvas like conv. top. then sew half a zipper around the inner opening. and the have the zipper start at the top of the frame. Now I would rivet and glue the frame peice to the door. then go ahead and cut the heavy plastic and sew in the other half of the zipper.
kinda like a jeep window. also on the frame part you might think about cuting a piece of metal to stiffen up the frame peice when you rivet on.
