Project: Moose-Knuckle

You take a fully IFS vehical and swap a solid axle into it with an extremely limited budget and we'll see how long it takes your ass!

All in good fun.

If you add up how much you have invested you mite start crying. I mite actually be doing so.

Suspension mods are done, the new crossmember and hangers are done, it's sitting on it's own weight, I just did a full tune up.

The final steps are:

Run power steering send and return lines

Bolt up new knuckle and install new ball joints

Fabricate a drag link.

Have my swamper mounted on a 8 lug rim.

Bleed brakes.

And it's good to drive.

To wheel I just need to install my new CV in the front driveshaft and clearence the cross member a tid bit.

Another day another step closer.

I feel retarded. I was/am running a gm style high steer arm which actually curves backwards. The chevy I pulled the knuckle from ran a pitman arm on the outside of the chassis pointing down turning forwards and backwards opposed to left and right like my gear box does. So it ended up turning opposite ways.

Today I dropped the 108 bucks for a tall high steer arm from Sky Manufactoring. It uses short studs and there's no need for a steering spacer.

I picked up dom but it might be a little too short now, so ****.

I also got kicked out of my folk's house and have to have everything gone by the end of the month. So I had to relocate my music studio to a buddy's house so I can still teach guitar, I'm movin in with my girlfriend's family, and the truck has to be done cause I'll no longer be able to borrow parent's cars.

but now it's just down to:

bolting up the new high steer arm when it comes

running my ps lines

finishing up the drag link

and finding a tophat w/ wheel bearing for an 88 blazer. (I accidentally returned it with a fawked rotor)

picking up an 8 lug 15" wheel and having a TSL mounted on it

and then it's driveable. to make it wheelable i need a different hub and to install a cv in my front d-shaft.

I predict by monday if i work my ass off this weekend.

Got her out of the garage again, with out steering.

Figured out the chevy shit, it came down to a different brake backing plate that would allow the caliper to fit just right around the rotor. But all is said and done.

I'm just waitin on the high steer arm and more DOM, then it's to re-bleeding the brakes (again) and fabbing my drag link. Holy shit this thing is soft. Mitch is postin a vid on youtube of us rockin the ranger side to side. I'll post a link or he will when it's up.

nice adam I would like to see your set-up again now that its closer to being complete. We should do a camping/wheeling trip soon

I think Mitch and I are plannin on runnin mill creek commin up, with the possibility of campin if it's nice out. All CO folk are welcome to join if they don't mind being around a bunch of drunks with bad ideas.

The axles are open/open for now. I'm plannin on a Aussie for the front and leavin the rear open or one day gettin a full carrier replacement locker. I hear good shit about the aussie.

i'm lookin for some good shocks that won't hinder my travel. any ideas of some good, but cheap shocks?

So we've done some shit. And stuff. Yeah.

I just picked up a new TRE for the pitman arm, a new 1 ton gm for the high steer arm, 1.5" od .250" wall DOM for the drag link, and tube inserts to thread the TREs in.

So while waiting for parts to be mailed, we put some old parts to use:
