Project Little Green Turd

I went home to work on the Ranger yesterday. Got the clutch and brakes bled, fuel tank in, rear driveshaft in, and air cleaner back on. I have a very dead battery, charger couldn't revive it. With the help of the starting feature, we got the old girl running last night. I have a small oil leak where oil pressure gauge attaches to the block and still have a power steering leak, but everything looks really good besides that.

Pictures and a short video to follow tonight.

My friend in Texas took this picture for me. I thought it was hysterical :icon_rofl:

Continuing work on Thursday :icon_cheers:

Super Duty was making some weird brake noises recently and they kept getting weirder. I found this:

And now it looks like this:

Gotta do the drives side rear tomorrow if the weather holds out. I ran out of time tonight.

What kind of undercoating did you put on there?
I'm getting some sandblasting done and spraying rust converter on, and i'm considering putting tractor supplies farm equipment paint, a couple people said it works really well.

I used Chassis Saver from Magnet Paints. It is some sticky shit, had it on my finger nails till it grew off. I wired wheeled and then blew the sections off with air. Chassis save sticks best to rust and rough surfaces. I'm happy with it so far, but it hasn't been in the elements yet.

I imagine Tractor Supply would make some good stuff. Never tried it personally though.

Did the driver's side brake last night on the F250. Went well except for the stupid little clips that hold the pads in. I hate those damn things. Anyway, the drivers side started squeaking on the way to work :annoyed: I guess I will be pulling them back apart when I get home.

On another note, I got gear lube for the front diff on the Ranger. Progress will resume tomorrow. I got the vehicle registration updated on yesterday. Joey's dad has an extra battery laying around that we are going to try in the Ranger tomorrow. With any luck, I'll have it done tomorrow or this weekend :yahoo:

Hmm, I personally would have put rust converter on the frame and got it down to bare metal, it can still rust underneath, and that's what i'm doing next week.
You definitely gotta let me know about those james duff shocks, if you like em I'm gonna pick em up.

Their data sheet said it that it chemically bonds to rust to prevent further damage. I figured it was worth a try.

I'll let you know about the shocks after I can test them.

So after setting the bed and fenders back, I took a look to see how much rake I have. Way more than I want.... The rear add-a-leaf made the spring pack so stiff, the bed didn't drop the rear at all. It has almost no give. So next time back, I will be pulling the rear axle back off to remove the add-a-leaf and see if that corrects my problem.

Here is a shot to give an idea of the rake:

I used a jack to raise the front end up to make the truck sit level. I realize I could put longer coils in and also solve the problem and get more lift, but I don't want to keep dumping money into it :icon_rofl:

I will probably spend Saturday or Sunday working on it again. At least everything in the rear should be easy to disassemble :icon_thumby:

Happy 4th :icon_cheers:

I got a lot done today. I pulled the leafs apart and took out the add-a-leaf for now and the truck sits level. I bolted the bed and cab down. I fixed straightened the rear bumper mounts and remounted it. I adjusted the drivers side beam up to the top hole in the drop bracket and corrected the camber issue (thanks to brinker88 for that advice). I fiiled the front pumpkin up with gear lube and in the process found that the return line on the power steering pump is leaking. I will replace that on the next trip.

After fixing the rear end, I had to switch the shocks back to the ones that came with my lift. They don't let the shackles open the whole way, but they will do for now. After mounting the rear bumper, I found that I have a clearance issue between the brackets and the rear spring bolts. I'll either trim the brackets or just shim the bolts out a bit.

I am going to get the battery this week along with a new power steering return line. Hopefully I'll be able to finish everything next weekend! :yahoo:

Lookin good...

My SD was always eating rear caliper brackets. No matter what I did, they would freeze up. I think it was just mad because I stopped daily driving it...

oh and the paint looks good!

I am a fan of Chassis Saver

Lol. Mine is going to be in that boat real soon. I have to replace the other caliper bracket this week. The other brake started dragging. It was fine so I just tried to leave well enough alone.

And Nicole changed the oil in her Suzuki Grand Vitara last week and now its leaking oil. I guess I will be looking into that tonight...

One day everything will work correctly and the world will be just.... :yahoo:
