Project Guinea Pig

And then I failed to post pix.

I pulled the cover off the rear 60 and its had water in it and is fairly rusty inside. I'm gonna tear it down and reassess whether I should rebuild it with the 35 spline center I bought last weekend or go further on it. Or huck it and start over.
Already on the agenda (since its probably cheaper than replacing the stock drums and guts) is the disc brake swap using Chebby 3/4 ton front calipers and discs with weld-on brackets (http://www.northwestfab.com/Weld-On-Disc-Brake-Adapter-for-3-14-Axle-Tubes_p_2676.html $50.00)
Cut to length axleshafts: https://www.yukongear.com/productdetails.aspx?ProdID=9956 The stock shafts are +/- 35" in length. Need to shop around for this.
Then add the nickel & dime stuff for small or almost forgotten parts...

Sometimes it sucks to have a bottom drawer budget. Cause shit happens.

Okay, best deal I could find for a locker, ring & pinion and an install kit for the 35 spline standard rotation D60 was on eBay (surprise?) http://www.ebay.com/itm/DANA-60-YUK...38-RING-AND-PINION-GEAR-PACKAGE-/331308245418
For what its worth the best Cad price for the Detroit locker alone was: $855.99 (http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetra...spx?t_c=12&t_s=237&t_pt=5589&t_pn=EAT225SL29A
Rear axleshafts, 2 required (their equal lengths): http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/yga-21710/overview/

Front inner right: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-19359664-dana-60-00-02-dodge-35-spline-shortside-cad-delete.html
These are all 4340 chromo axles so far. The front outers are short OEM Dodge 33 spline. (maybe not as good as 35 spline but hopefully not too bad.) Its possible, though expensive to convert the front to a "free spin" kit through Spyntec: https://www.solidaxle.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=17&idproduct=88
I'd rather not though.

So, with a halfassed plan and next weeks paycheck going into the mix, the eBay item on top is first up. It will be ordered next weekend after setting up a mailbox in Washington state (they don't ship to Canada.) Sometime later (after I recover a bit from this financial hit) another item will be chosen and ordered.

I kind of have to do it this way even though our dollar ain't worth a shit right now, or I'll keep finding excuses why I didn't wheel this ditchpig for another year.

Edit. Should be picking up a NP 205 this weekend for $50. Bulletproof transfer case? Check.

Looks like he torched the front U bolts off. That might be a pain but other than that its all good. :icon_thumby:

Greasy is better than rusty! Lol. Whats that tail shaft housing from on it?

It was off of a T-18 4 speed. 75 F150. I'm not too sure what I'll need yet.
If the weather holds off a bit today I'll degrease it before I do much else.

What trans are you going to use?

What trans are you going to use?

It'll be an AOD or some variant.
Theres a '93 F250 with a damaged box, 351w OD auto of unknown type on dual fuel that keeps showing up on Craigslist that I'm procrastinating going to see (cause of $) but something like that would be a great donor.
Might consider yanking the 4R70W out of the dd when its time is up too.

When I get closer to throwing all the drivetrain together I'm gonna post on the NWF page on Pirate for their opinion which would work best with the eco~box.
I know the blackbox bolts directly to most Fords without adapters.

Like I said earlier, halfassed plan. :dunno:

you want a 351 into er? I want to put one in my 92 explorer, after puttin my current big windsor in my ranger of course lol. i'm all about the big windsors :headbang:

this is my slpoder with new tires rims and center caps

Don't get me wrong, I like the 5.0 in my sploder. But I don't love the sploder. My dd >

But I'm gonna wheel the living shit out of the Ranger and it'll need decent power to turn the 39's I want under it. In everything, bigger is better.
Ask any woman.
:shok:

Hold up. Have a lead on a HP Dana 60. Is this a better choice?

I think the pumpkin on all but the 78 & 79's is offset too far left and puts the later ones pumpkin pretty much under the left frame rail of a Ranger.
The Dodge axle (I have) has the pumpkin more centered. Needs less lift to clear.

Opinions guys?

1) blow the $750 for the HP D60
2) keep going on the weirdo Dodge CAD LP D60.

Can you get some exact measurements? The HP would be better.

Agreed. From a mechanical standpoint the high pinion is better. But what if it fits the truck poorly? Is the difference that great?

Not sure what measurements I can give without having both side by side.
From Billavista's D60 "bible:" (does not include the Dodge axle "Undesirable.")

Width Ford (wms to wms) 69.25" Dodge (wms to wms) 70.5"
