Project Double R...

THe club I wheel with here in Michigan has 13 Jeeps and I had my Bronco2 up until this year. My B2 had a efi5.0 and a stock d35 TTB with an Explorer 8.8 on 35 KM2's. About half the Jeeps in our group run 35 or 36's and everytime we go out at least one of those Jeeps ,if not more, will break the front axle tryin to do the same thing my Bronco2 did with no issues. And the Jeeps on 31-33 inch tires dont ever seem to break either.

My Mountaineer(Merc) weighs over 5,000 lbs has a 5.0 V8 4.88 gears in the Dana 30 with a Detroit. Running 35 inch tires with beadlocks each tire and wheel weigh over 100lbs. My Tcase is STaK mini monster 3 speed with 2.97 and 5.22 low ranges and I have run trails in both those speeds. The axle shafts in my Dana 30 are factory 27 spline with upgraded 760x joints. I have run over 15 trails and put 25k on the axle since the build. And I am still on the stock shafts without one break to date. If those guys were breaking axle shafts it cause they were running bad joints in the first place or pushing there 30 way too hard. One of the guys I built a TTB 35 for he blew out joints a few times wheeling out here. I think it all depends on who you ask. Double R already has over 6k on it since I built and it is still running stock shafts with stock joints. TNT has over 15k on it's D30 setup and no axle shaft issues what so ever.

Well I never said they were easy on them. lol Just funny that my TTB d35 never even broke a u-joint in the 4 years I wheeled it and my Jeep buddies are breaking theirs everytime we go out....Matter of fact, one of the same guys called me about an hour after I made that last post. He blew up the spiders in his rear d35 on a downshift pulling up to a red light this evening! lmao

New 15x10 heavy gauge wheels showed Yesterday. Went with 4 inch back spacing. They were $223 for 4 shipped to my door from Summit. Trying to do decide what design to do for the beadlocks I need to order those soon.

What backspacing do you typically run on these d30 swaps? Any different between this one, your merc and tnt? I'm in the market

As long as you stay around 4 inches you will be golden. Merc TNT and RR all have around 4 inch backspacing. If you go over 4" you risk rubbing.

Double R is about to take the next step. I ordered the parts I need to 4 link and coil spring the rear. More details coming once I collect all the parts.

Cool, thanks! I've just noticed in some of my preliminary searches I've noticed there's a difference between the xj recommendations and 93-97 ranger recommendations. My axle was from a 92 xj

Oh and congrats on the new parts order

I snagged the coils for the 4 link rear. Expedition coils are nice and tall and should be firm enough I can still haul stuff on the bed.

LOL I am going to build another Ranger soon. I already have most of the parts to build it(tires, axles, gears, wheels, and now springs). They are only 25 bucks each at the JY.

Yeah a cheaper one. Might be a Explorer not sure yet. No I did not have them rearched. I used them as is.

Ya explorers are cheaper than rangers on Craigslist. Although there is a running 4x4 first gen ranger on Craigslist for $500. He says there is a crack in the transfer case though. I probably won't rearch mine then.

Time for an upgrade. Should be back on the road Tomorrow...
