i finally scored a source of income and was looking into doing a total tear down of the ranger.

Project 1-ton Red Ranger

i did want to try and stick a cummins 4bt in it.

i want to do the 4bt cause its unique and i bet everyone is tired of everyone having a 5.0 and want to see something different.

besides who doesnt want 24mpg with 35+ tires?

Im gonna find at least a dana 60 front as for the rear axle im not sure maybe a 14 Bolt if it will hold the torque or maybe i will go bigger with a 10.25 to hold the torque.

height maybe go 4 more inches than now so i can properly flex the 38s

as for passing emmisions i can pass that lol i know some ppl.

i would most likely greatly reinforce the frame due to the torque this 4 cyl is gonna pull.

give or take somewhere in the 300 range

anyone know what type of springs i should run?

superduty might be to stiff.

i was thinking Full size bronco super flex coils is that possible?

since a 4bt weighs 700 pounds like 150 pounds more than a 351W so i can flex good.

it will be locked in the rear and

it will most likely stay my daily driver after im done with it. while i purchase a diesel to tow it.

Yes i do know and understand what kind of work is going to be involved in this and im basically ready and just biding my time, so i can tackle this smartly and make sure i have a good rig and not crap.
This is within the year and wont happen within the week but i would like some input.

I want this thing to flex like a mother but still keep good calm nature on the highway maybe at least 60mph

Engine: Cummins 4bt (source a fedex or breadvan)
Tranny: need help with that maybe something standard
Transfer Case: Ford NP205
Gearing: 4.56?
Axles: Dana 60 and FF14Bolt
Tires: 38 inch TSLS? maybe even grapplers once again
Wheels: maybe something 16 inch or 16.5

there are so many tranny choices from c6 /th400/tf727 all the way up to the zf , the 4 speeds and 5 speeds. just depends on the adapter on the motor

Cool idea... I'd like to see the pics when that engine is sitting in the engine compartment. I'm not familiar with that engine, but wonder about the height- most diesels have a longer stroke, so might be tough getting it to fit in height-wise.

some info

The 4BT 3.9 engine is rated at 120+ hp @ 2500 rpm with peak torque of 327 lb-ft @ 1700 rpm. The engine weighs 570 pounds (dry). The 4BT 3.9 engine dimensions are...:

>

Total height: 30.6 inches

Total length: 30.1 inches

Total width: 22.9 inches

How does that compare with the stock GM 4.3 V6? It has 190 HP and 250 pounds of torque. It's dry weight is 492 pounds.

Total height: 26.7 inches

Total length: 26.0 inches

Total width: 22.0 inches
