Not quite. Charleston, IL. Only moved 100 miles, not 1000+

it'd be a nicer build if it moved with me, i had to leave her behind. its still sitting in my storage unit begging for a new home here with me. hopefully by spring I'll have found cozy little garage to tinker in and get the hunk o junk moved down here.

Like it? The guy at the dmv didn't. I went in to register the truck and wanted vanity plates that read "CHKNFKR" so i fill out all the paperwork, write a check and all that. The guy (had to be 70+) ran it through their system and tells me its available. He starts processing the request. Gets to being a his signature away from me having the plates, he sigs his first name, then stops. There had to have been about a solid minute of total silence. He looks up at me with that look you get when you're six and you broke something and tried to cover it up but got caught anyway. He proceeds to tear both my application and my check in half, points to the door and says, "don't ever try this again" gonna try again now that i've moved.

oh well i don't think i'm going that route anyway

I am curious, why did you cut the bowl part off and replace it with this? is this for clearance between other mechanical parts that might hit it as the suspension travels?

As it happens there is a dmv here in charleston, sadly they close by the time i get off work. Maybe on the weekend, forgot to read weekend hours.

That pic isn't mine. As it happens, photobucket had it on the bottom of the the upload page when i was uploading pics of progress i had made. The old skid has about 2" of dead space below the bull gear and as much as 4 1/2 below the caps. Removing it and replacing it simply gains ground clearance and lowers the oil capacity from 12qts to about 8 1/2qts (if my math is right) another benefit is that tho stock skid is only 3/8" thick while the rest of the housing and third are 1/2" thick minimum. I plan on abusing the hell out of these things and want the reasurance offered in a 1/2" skid.

ahhh I see now.

I really want to see the area you are going wheeling at that will damage these axles :p

Allan d said it best in a post about tire chains, something along the lines of "places only helicopters would dare to follow you" i'd like to make due without the chains though. The goal is that when a passenger or someone else riding with me says a climb is impossible, show them that it isn't

As for a specific place her in IL, i'm not sure such a place exists.

Hopefully the job is just short term. i got the job so i could move to Charleston, just to get my foot in the door till something i actually want opens up. the move to Charleston is likely to be permanent. the truck staying in Lincoln hopefully isn't permanent

Good luck with JOB and truck

Thanks pbr! Unfortunately the truck didnt move with me so until i can find a vacant garage for cheap i have to put it on hold
