I had the bed of my '75 Ranchero GT sprayed with Line-X back in 2012 shortly after the truck was repainted. That was in Alabama. The Line-X was all intact after having the Ranchero transported to Colorado in 2022. Before long, I noticed the Line-X coming loose immediately behind the cab. Now after a few more years, the Line-X is loose everywhere including the bed floor. The Line-X is still in place on the tailgate.

Now that the Colorado weather has warmed, I drove the Ranchero south to the Line-X shop in Denver to see if the Line-X was still under the lifetime warranty. I had a copy of the installation receipt with me from 2012.

The Line-X manager looked it over and concluded that the Line-X was fine but the paint had pulled away from the bed. Hence the problem was not there's and no warranty coverage.

I'm certainly not liking this. My guess is that the Line-X shrunk in the Colorado weather cycles and pulled the paint with it.

Anyone else have Line-X come loose?

My 2000 has spray in bed liner but I bought it that way. It has a orange gold flake paint job over black factory paint but I have no idea what brand of bed liner it is and it is still solid on the bed.

My father had Line-X sprayed in the bed of his 2002 Tundra when it was brand new. My brother-in-law still has the truck and the liner still looks pretty much like new. Truck has been in PA for all of its life.

The bed lining in the 2019 has been fine so far. I believe Ford uses LineX.

Were they able to show you that the LineX adhered to the paint, but the paint pulled away from the bed?

Yes. Paint stuck to the back side of the Line-X. Primer still in place adhered to bed.

I think you’re right that cold temps did the deed. Sorry.

The repaint didn’t get good adhesion to the primer.

So they said the line-x shrunk and are fixing it since it pulled the paint off?

Not Line-X but I experienced similar with the liner that was sprayed in my '99 back around 2005-2006. All of these liner products were relatively new at the time and Line-X was out of my price range. IIRC this stuff was called Reflex.

I can't say when it happened, but several years later it started ozidizing and weathering. Well that's the best explination I have for how it reacted to the UV rays. By then any warranty on the product had expired and the company that sprayed the product had moved and wouldn't even acknowledge ever selling it.

Few more years passed and the stuff started turning loose from the bed. Eventually got to the point that I started removing loose chunks to stop them flapping in my rearview. Care to guess what I found under the liner? Shiny paint and sanding dust. Poor surface prep didn't leave enough tooth for the liner to bite to, and even if it had the dust would have still caused it to turn loose over time.

The company has branched out to all truck accessories and now carries the Armadillo brand spray liner. Even if I trusted the product that they sold now, I wouldn't take anything to them. In the years since I've also heard horror stories of other work they've done. Doesn't seem to be a surprise that they keep having to move their shop around to keep a customer base.

Sorry I jumped on the complaint bandwagon. It's been long enough I should be over it by now. Anyway...

Prep is key for a bed liner. Whether it's the liner itself, or the paint it's applied to, if the surface it isn't preped right it won't last.

Next time it's wither Line-X/Rhino from a dealer with an excellent reputation, or I'm doing it myself with Raptor Liner.

Line-X HQ, Lilli - nice lady, sent me to the Line-X shop in Boulder a 35 mile drive. Said she'd contacted the owner Kyle and he was expecting me.

So I drove my Ranchero yesterday to the Boulder Line-X shop and met with Kyle. That was a total waste of time and gasoline. As far as I'm concerned, he'd already made up his mind before looking at the truck that the Line-X failure was poor preparation back in 2012 and no warranty service was warranted.

The fact that the Line-X was in place for the first 10 years, until moving the truck from Alabama to Colorado, was irrelevant. Furthermore, the installer in Huntsville, AL must have thought the preparation was adequate.

In addition, that Boulder Line-X shop was so filthy dirty I wouldn't want my truck in there anyway.

On the way home i drove by my favorite body shop in Thornton, CO and asked what they thought. I won't print their words here. They recommended I go to the Rhino Liner shop which is much closer to where I live.
So much for Line-X and their lifetime warranty.
