I have a Ford Ranger from 88 and the tachometer has stoped working properly. It follows the rpms like it should but the arrow keeps droping down untill it almost points straight down and i can't find the problem. Anyone who know what's causing it and how to fix it?

I'm confused. Can you do a short video?

I couldn't get a video small enough but this is Idle

Not too sure but looks like there should be a "stop" that prevents needle from dropping that far with engine off
This is assuming it works fine with engine on

Speedometer usually has the same

Sometimes it a small pin that prevents needle from dropping below 0, on the gauge surface, or can be inside the mechanism

Yes it works just as it should when the engine is on it just slowly drops down when you turn it off

My 1994 has a black pin that prevents tach needle from dropping below 0, hard to see but its there

Mine dosen't have a pin on the outside but maybe it does in the inside

Just re-read your post with picture

........but this is Idle

So tach is broken.............it should show 500-800rpms at idle?????
It might be working OK above 1,000, but not below 1,000

It works like it should work it's just that whenever i turn it off the needle drops down a slight bit every time

I haven't taken an 1988 tach apart so can't say if there is a mechanical stop inside

Maybe someone who has will see this

I see you are in Sweden so Ranger parts are probably not easy to come by
