the underside of my truck has slowly developed a clicking noise. at first i thought it was engine ping, but i really wasnt sure what engine ping sounded like. but i noticed that the noise wasnt heard from under the hood, just from under the engine, right around the front wheels. is this most likely a leak from an exhaust manifold? no smell though, this is what confuses me.

how much can i expect to pay a shop for this, and can a newbie do this himself? i'm at change tires/oil/belts skill level.

If the leak is exhaust, and you can't spot it, try putting very soapy water on it (cold engine, of course) and look for bubbles.
