My credo
If it ain't broke, I can't fix it.
I swapped a 5.0L Explorer motor and accessory equipment into my Ranger a few months ago and decided to replace the compressor, accumulator, and orifice tube last week, evacuate, and charge it. I added the 9 oz. of PAG, 1/2 in the compressor and the other 1/2 in the accumulator as recommended. I evacuated the system and added 2 1/2 cans of 12 oz. R134. I pressure checked the system and I'm getting only 30 PSI on the low and 130 PSI on the high side on an 82° day and getting 40° out of the vents at idle. I'm pleased with the performance of the system, but I'm concerned about the low pressure even though the full capacity is said to be 30 oz. which is 2 1/2 cans.

Should I add refrigerant even though I've already filled it to spec capacity?

Low pressure spec is between 22 and 45 psi. High pressure spec is 125-225 psi. You're within the specs and you're getting 40 degrees, which is about as good as it gets, and you filled it with the proper amount of refrigerant. Sounds like everything is working perfectly. Leave it alone.

Thanks exbass94. I had originally looked up pressure specs on Interdynamics' site and they were generic for all vehicles which were considerably higher pressures on the high side for the outside temp.

at 82 deg your pressures look about where i would want to be. A good way to just check over all system pressure would be firs tthing in the mrnign before you run the system. Hook up your gauges and see if both sides are reading the same pressure and about what your ambient tempature is. That will ball park you for checking level of freon in the system.
