in the lmc catalog there is a kit for installing power windows into a truck that doesn't have them. the kit goes for $169.95, and has all components, switches, and wires. is it worth getting the kit or going to a junk yard and pulling parts from a ranger with the power windows package.

That would be cheaper than going to a yard and pulling it all. I think when it was said and done my stock swap cost me roughly $470ust in parts from the junkyard. If you go to they yard you will also have a harder time finding the parts. I went to an all ranger yard and had to go back several times over a period of about two months to get all the parts I needed because they didn't have them all (primarily the door panels and power mirrors)

$470? Yikes. I only spent $180 for my power setup (windows, locks, mirrors). Just plan it out before you go. You need:

Switches
Mirrors
Wiring (and maybe GEM module, my 93 was different than the later models)
Motor + Regulator
Lock actuators

you will need a gem and the security module. and on my year (not sure when it started) you have to replace the entire door panel, not just the part with the switches

the PATS didn't start until 99 so I dont think I would need a security module, unless that is something different.

from what i have read the security module controls the horn and the keyless entry, but I am unsure if it does anything else. and thats only if you want keyless. but then again, if you switch the gem and it doesn't control the horn you won't have one without the security module. research will def be needed if you want a "stock" window system.

Is it possible to use Explorer pwr window and door lock parts for the Ranger ?
is there a year conflict on fitment, do you need the same year electrical parts as the truck ?

If I'm right it has to be the same year truck, same engine, and same drive train (2 or 4wd.) And if you used explorer stuff you will need it from a two door so the wiring will match.

According to Rock Auto
The Window Motors will probably interchange
The Window Regulators do not
The Door Lock Actuators do not

The Explorer doors are also longer than the Ranger, so the panels do not interchange either.

i know this is old, but my stock oem cost me only $50 , and that was for buying the owner and yard man pizza and soda pop, LOL i have acess to everything ford has, and it does not cost many to much and most free.

if you dont have the security module that sits behind the glovebox, please get it, its a nice feature that you wont regret, also you can in fact use the power doors from a explorer also, just be ure its a 2-door/same year, you can use the dash as well, put it this way, I took the entire dash complete and fusebox under engine hood harness complete and tail light harness form under driver seat to rear complete, and swaped everything over.

Now I have power doors/locks/windows and i have factory fogs/ I even have auto down on windows and when my windows are down and i hit the alarm button the windows roll up, oh yea and i took the steering wheel with controls to and everything bolted right in.

So just imaging when it came to the auto dim mirror, ohc install, dual lighted visors, eatc, it was all right their and just plug and play, Im trying to do a cardomain account right now to do pics and how to, but this way avoids alot of the pain in the arse elctrical know how, PLUG/PLAY SIMPLE, hell i have options most modded rangers dont have, lol

p.s dont forget to take controls for the explorer door to match up in your ranger.
