hi guys, here is my new debate lol!:dunno:
i want some power windows in my truck, deff im gonna install them,:icon_welder: cuz i have bad experiences with install shops:annoyed:
the thing is: what do you preffer, brand new power windows kit, made in china, or any place like that, (not to talk shit, but not that great quality), or dig in a junkyard for original ford explorer or ranger power windows kit?, i assume the oem kit is not that hard to install, i already have the electric manual for my truck in PDF on my pc, so i can guide my install with that, just like when i replaced my radio. ordering from internet doesn't work for me cuz i live out of the US so shippings will kill me, i believe that ford oem parts have better quality than any chinese brand
am i right??:icon_confused:
thanks!:icon_thumby:

I'm not a big fan of aftermarket power windows, regardless of where they're made. Most kits reuse the manual regulator, adapted to an electric motor. Poor performance, poor reliability and a short life are usual with most aftermarket kits. The cheaper the kit, definitely the poorer finished results.

I do prefer factory-parts power windows. Unfortunately, 1995 and later models have the power windows controlled by the GEM, so it's a more complicated conversion than on older trucks. If it were me making this conversion on a '99 like yours, I would get a good pair of of motor and regulator assemblies from a similar year donor truck, but use earlier-model switches and just make up the wiring harness instead of using the GEM.

In my own opinion, going that route would be the best way, especially if you understand how the power windows work, and can do the wiring. You end up with reliable factory motors and regulators, wired as a simple reversal-rest-at-ground circuit to earlier factory switches. Basic, simple and reliable.

yeah thats what i have in mind, im gonna try to get the parts form another ranger or explorer, and do my own electric circuit, im gonna start diggin the parts, and anyone that has done this, please give me advice!!, all comments and tips are welcomed!!
thanks!

good news!! i found the pair of ranger power windows in a junk yard, from a 05 ranger, both, and the pair of controls housing, u know the black part of the door were the buttons are in the electric package, for 160$, im gonna buy them next friday or sooner i hope, and post the pics of the install
