Power To Explorer Seats

Finally got some nicer explorer seat to swap in my Ranger and wondering what is the safest way that you guys are getting power to these seats? I was gonna tie into the cigarette lighter on the left side of the radio bezel but not sure if that will be a safe thing to do and could possibly cause a fire because someone suggested that the seats draw alot of amps when they are being used. However, based on my little knowledge the wires coming off the bottom are not very heavy and that suggests otherwise to me. Just want it safe and no worries! Tie into lighter with no worries? Can I create new fuse coming off of panel on side of Dashboard on Driver Side? Or do I need to install a new dedicated fuse panel coming off of the Battery? So all advice appreciated.

Thanks all hopefully this makes sense!

Have you looked to see if the wiring harness is already there?

This diagram shows that earlier trucks took power for the seats from the very circuit you want to use. Your truck may be the same. The wiring harness or parts of it may even be installed but unused. You may also be able to remove the harness from a junk yard donor for very little money - wires already cut to length, connectors installed, etc. and that would help you figure out a good way to route the harness from dash to seats.

Hey thanks for the reply! Gonna just wire directly off the battery with a 20amp fuse! That should be good enough to get the job done. That diagram was off of the explorer? Otherwise I guess I would come off the back of the fuse panel? Maybe I will check that out as well!
