:annoyed:
So my truck has a little over half the steering doing nothing but play. When I turn left or right it will hesitate but correct itself immediately afterwards so "no big deal." My other Ranger had a similar problem so naturally I looked under to the sway bar by the power steering pump (as with the other Ranger). Right above the bar and right below the Power Steering Pump where they connect is a lot of grease. Is this just my Power Steering Pump or just some random bushing that busted?

:shok:

It's hard to tell exactly what you're referring to, but sometimes it helps to watch the steering linkages while someone else is turning the wheel back and forth (while the wheels are on the ground). That has helped me identify where the slack is in the system in the past. Also doesn't hurt to jack up each of the front wheels at a time and test for left/right and top/bottom movement.

it's just a bushing that needs replaced on the sway bar linkage. thanks

bad bushings in on the sway bar linkage will not cause excessive steering play, worn tie rods, or box will.

good call

hey good call; when i was at my dad's house we took a good look at it and whata' ya know, my tie rod ends were like joy sticks. thanks!:headbang:
