Not a major problem, but sometimes when I am driving, the power steering cuts in and out. I just replaced the power steering pump about six months ago, so I do not think it is a pulley problem. Could the hose be freezing up or clogging? If this is the case, how do I fix it?

It could be but how's the level? Did you try burping it of air recently?

sounds like there is air in the systems to me... or maybe a collapsing hose

Try burping the air? How do I do that?

& the level of power steering fluid is full.

Turn it on, take the cap off and turn the wheel all the way in one direction...Then back the other way...

have someone look for bubbles or you might be able to barely see it yourself if you are doing it from the side of the truck through the window.

What engine do you have. If its the 2.3l your power steering pressure switch might be faulty. A quick check that might tell you if its bad is to start the engine and immediately turn the wheel. If the engine starts to die or gets a bad idle your switch is bad. This might be your problem.

He has the 2.3. There is now a squeal that occurs when he starts it up.

It is a 94 Ranger 4 cylinder stick , 2.3, with AC. He has had it since August of 2011. Since then we have done the Fuel Pump TWICE last November, the PS Pump & Serpentine Belt in March, the Alternator in April, the Starter in August, and the Idler & Tensioner Pulleys this week.

We did notice there is a small nick (about 1" long) in the Serp Belt. The guy at Action Auto said that could cause the squealing, but not the PS problems.

We did the thing that jhammel85 said and see the bubbles, then what?

I will have him check Bryan's thoughts...

Where are you guys located at. Any chance your close to me in Temecula, Ca. You can come on over and maybe I can give you a hand with it.

Would like to take you up on that offer, but we're in Michigan LOL

My vote goes to the power steering pressure switch as well. It plays a hand in determining the load while turning. Unplug the switch and see if it goes away or becomes constant.
