power steering clutch

This raises one question in my mind. On my ranger, if you turn the steering box without the engine running you can blow fluid out the reservoir. How did he get around this quirk?

/\Probably wouldn't be turning the wheel far at all without the pump engaged. At speed is about the only time to release the clutch, so pumping fluid out probably wouldn't be much of an issue, unless he plans on strongarming it around. I know mine forces fluid out at a stop, but in motion doesn't. But who knows, seems like a decent idea for us 2wd 4 popper guys who need to free up whatever power we can.

I made noise about trying this back when I was tractor pulling (along with the fan). Power steering was sure nice with a full rack of weights but I figured it was pulling a couple hp... same for the stamped steel fan bolted to the water pump pulley.

Never really got any farther than the BS'ing stage though. :icon_twisted:
