power pulleys vs cooling....

I'm putting a 95 f-150 5.0 into a 96 ranger 2x, and don't know for sure the radiator I will be using. Probably I'll try the stocker due to impatience for a few rides.

Anyway, if I get a new water pump with the impeller plate (30% more flow supposedly), and power pulleys that slow everything down, would I run into cooling issues?

I live in Maine and today its in the low 90's, but usually max temp is around 85* for a couple months, not every day of course.

Anyway, its got an auto so that will need a cooler, but no A/C.

I also am contemplating a cowl hood scoop, mostly to let more heat out, but not let so much rain and snow in.

I appreciate all thoughts!!

What percent will the power pulleys slow down your waterpump?.......you've got a 30% window available with the new waterpump.....

My truck was doing fine in 95* heat....even in traffic....but the A/C that I installed raised the coolant temp to 220* + in traffic....so I'm adding another radiator/electric fan under the bed.

I have the worlds second tinyest crank pulley, and have zero cooling issues. Stock Mustang 5.0 water pump and pulley, and stock Ranger 4.0 rad.
It runs at about 170deg, tops. It's never been above 180, my fans come on at 175, I believe.
So I wouldn't woory too much about pulley size.

1993 Mustang Cobras came with a smaller water pump pulley, those are available sometimes new or used if you're really worried.

I run a stock Bronco FEAD and 4.0L rad and I haven't had any overheating issues whatsoever. The weather here is very similar to what you get, so I'd say you're fairly safe.

I'm just wondering about the cost to benfits. How much HP you going to gain? Lots of times the guys using the UD pulleys are looking for every bit of power they can get, don't think you really need them.

you'll see the most gains with underdrive pulleys in throttle response and revving. actual measurable horsepower gains are usually pretty small

I used them because a guy named "gt40" on RPS made them, gave them to me, and they look awesome! No other reason, really...

The pulley part is removeable, and this isn't the small one... But it's the one I use.

(Lat years version of the engine, BTW)

I was looking at the cheap steel ones from summit while browsing the catalog. They were a little over $100.

I figure the water pump should be changed (100K miles), and with all the pulleys and brackets off the front for clearance it would be just as easy to make a minor upgrade. I've read rumors from other people overheating with the p-pulleys, but haven't seen much in the way of ranger v8's.

Thanks!
