Power Programmers???

Fred use to have a Ranger and all of his tunes are dyno tested. I did call Superchips about the capabilities of their tuner and what I wanted the tuner to do and they said their tuner could not perform to my standards and GAVE me the number to SCT and recommended them to me.Yes, the tunes at Superchips are generic. Fred will set up your tune to comply with the changes you've made to your vehicle and will give you great tech support. Get what you want but I'll stick with Fred at Rouge Performance because I finally got what I paid for with great support and no BS.

No arguement - with the number and type of alterations you have (and not knowing what you asked Superchips). For your needs you are correct in going with your particular choice; for my needs and for most others, Superchips is the way to go. Don't forget/overlook the OP did say for TOWING. Have fun!:icon_cheers:

I don't know why I can't write an answer to this post, it keeps timing out before I can finish my reply so I guess I'll do it in parts. I've tried to reply four times and it timed out. You didn't look at the correct programmer. The SCT X2/X3 from Fred is $380 and $25 extra to fine tune your ECM with the data from data logging you driving data from the way you drive. You log your driving data to a laptop through the SCT X-3 that is connected to your OBII port, send the data by e-mail, Fred adjust your tune to your equipment cahnges and driving habits. I believe that constitutes custom tuning, don't you?

I'm trying to post this for the fifth time so I'll have to keep this reply to 5 lines. The reason I went with SCT is that I had returning lean codes and the dealership wasn't up to the task (they also relaced my rear end two times before 50K miles and it went out again 15K later). I called Superchips and the tech told me that he didn't think their program could keep the codes from coming back. He then gave me a name at SCT and their number. You see they only have generic programs. From the info I had on hand, I got my wallet out, said screw the warranty since they couldn't fix a wheel barrow and got all the parts in and did my conversion in one weekend.:icon_thumby::icon_cheers:

I'm not saying that your programmer is not a good one but you don't have to think you have purchased the epitome of prgrammers when you don't know what else is out there. My programmer also calibrates the speedometer with tire and gear changes, removes speed limiter and change the rev limiter if you make any changes in the engine so it can handle the higher revs. So far you have insulted my knowledge and insulted the one of our vendor's abilities. Your programmer does what you wanted it to do and mine serves me very well. We have hijacked Johnboy13's thread discussing our programmers when all he wanted to know what kind of programmers were out there and if were satisfied with them. Just put out the info and don't slam something you don't know anything about or misread.:icon_cheers:

Coffee, I did not intend to offend you or anyone else. If disagreeing with someone is "insulting" then get over it - its normal! The Cortex does everything you spoke of (recalibrate speedometer, raises the rev and speed limiters, etc). It also has a separate, tow specific program in it. "The Best" of everything? NO. "The Best for Most of Us?" YES. But the OP does not want/need a laptop nor a "specific" tune for his very own; just a good tow tune. Your situation, with a variety of odd ball add ons would require specialization, something the Cortex does not pretend to do. I tried to stay on message with what the OP was asking, you were trying to sell something he did not need.

I understand and no problem. I don't mind discussing but you were referencing the wrong programmer from Rouge and assuming that Superchips knows what their competition is capable of doing. I was inserting my recommendation since there was no price difference in the programmers and the SCT was more flexible since there are about nine different programs for the SCT and you just pick and choose which ones you want. Johnboy didn't say whether what he intended to do in the future and I was simply giving him direction to make his decision and future growth.
