One of my friends was showing me a Power Programmer they got for their F-150 (Edge Products Power Programmer) it sits on their dash with its own molding, it look like its part of the dash, real nice unit. So I'm trying to find the same thing for my 2008 Ranger 4.0L. After doing a search on google I find.

http://www.jegs.com/

There seems to be some nice units made for the F-150 but not so or the Ranger.

Is there a such a thing for the Ranger. I'm not overlly interasted in getting one if there is no dash molding unit that I can get with it or for it (not a fan of cutting holes in my dash or sticking stuff to my dashboard)

Any info is a help.

give jegs or summit a call and talk to someone about it. They might not have it listed yet. Or call edge

ok so doing alittle more searching I find this:

http://www.superchips.com/products.php?pk=54&pvk=114&cmk=897&pname=Ford+05-08+Mustangs%2C+99-08+Expedition%2C+99-08+F-Series+V8+Gas%2C+04-08+Rangers%2C+99-08+Diesel+Pickup+%26+Excursion

The Cortex device also comes with a special expansion port that will allow users to connect compatible performance accessories to the Cortex device. This means the Cortex can stay in the vehicle cabin and act as a hub communicating with networked accessories such as dash-mount displays, gauges, and supplemental vehicle sensors.

I have not called anyone yet but I will on my day off.

My question is, does any know anything about this programmer or even programmers in general?
-are they worth the $500+ price tag?
-if they are doing what they say they are. better tuning your eng. why are they not doing this from day one at the plant?
-is this going to cause problems for me down the road (reduce eng. life, burn something up, start blowing smoke. etc)
:icon_confused:

P.S. Nothing personal to anyone. please post any INFOMATION or any INSIGHT on this. I know that I can use a phone to call but thats not the reason I'm making a post. thank you.

Ok. I went down to my local performance shop and I had this Superchips Cortex programmer printed off and I was asking him alot of question, to which he had no real answer to. He said that Superchips is one of the best but he wasn't able to answer ant details on the device itself. I think I bug him enough that he is going to look into in more detail.

YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SORRY EVERYONE I SHOULD HAVE MAYBE POSTED THIS IN THE Misc Electrical & Gauges if there is any Admins. out there please feel free to move the post. Again sorry.

looking into this myself. A lot of people claim the SCT stuff is the best for rangers. Here is what I see so far from reading

SCT products need to programmed by a dealer for your application to provide the best performance

from reading at the SCT site and other places the products seem to lock you out after so many uses. You have to pay for them to unlock it.

SCT products only allow you to use the maps in the flasher as they come with it.

I used to own a DSM and the rave was with piggy backs lke the SAFC from APEXI. However those systems do not allow for changes in wheel tire size, gearing, and shift points (if you have an auto trans)

The cortex is somethign im looking at because it is a little cheaper than the SCT products. Also I have not read that it locks you out. I dont know anything about it first hand though.

my plans are a piggy back to fine tune fuel map and a flasher for shift points and speed limit delete and tire size/gearing changes. Like I posted oon my own thread i will let you guys know how it turns out.
