Power outlet in center console

Who has added a power outlet in the center console? I have bucket seats with the floor console (the OEM Ranger one, not the Explorer one). Did you just relocate one of the two radio bezel outlets or splice into something to add a 3rd in the center console. Which gauge wire did you use?

depending on what you plan on running out of this outlet (amp draw wise) i would probably add another wire from the fuse panel or other power source and fuse it accordingly. choose your wire gauge according to this chart. http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Mar04/tech.htm

I will be running my satelite radio and, at times I may also run a portable GPS. But it will mostly be just the XM.

As stated it would be better to run a new circuit.
Find out the max amperage of the Power Outlet you are using, get the wire according o that load.
ie: 10 amps can run 16 ga wire but 14 is better; 15 amp calls for 14 a wire; 20 amps use 12 ga wire and 30 amp use 10 ga wire.

I do not believe the power outlet calls for more than 10 amps but find out ahead of time and everything else falls in place.
Make sure to fuse the outlet as close to the power source as possible.
Maybe a switch on the dash or close to the outlet, not necessary but just thinking.

Mount the power outlet, find the pwr source you want run some wire and fuse, all done.

Easy right.

If you wanted to you could take the pwr outlet or the cig lighter and relocate it, then use the hole for a switch for other things.
