Power loss till about 3,000rpm

What the.......???????

This sounds egg-zakly like my '89 2.9L auto-xmsn....all sensors test good/cleaned all wiring connectors..fuel pressure is great/injectors are great/timing great/everything's great..truk has progressed from running on 4 cylinders to running on all 6 & smoking the tires when power braking....

However...it smokes black like a choo choo train until it gets to 50mph @ 3000 rpm.....then it clears up & launches at about 50 mph on up to 100mph...

Slow down below 45-50 mph and it's black smoke outta both exhausts all over again....

Now....the EEc won't supply any codes at all....using a code reader or a test lite......nothing....not even a blink...

Help....me burnt out...VA drugs don't help........

Just to clarify.....when rechecking the timing....you removed the spout plug first...yes???

Yup. when rechecking and setting the timing i pulled the spout then started the truck and checked/reset the timing. turned the truck back off pluged the spout back in and then restared the truck.

Anyone? Im at a loss to what step to take now. i'm thinking maybe the HallEffect switch in the dizy is bad. but i have no clue on how to test it. i haven't take the cap off to see if maybe the eye interuptor has come lose. dought it though.

good sudjestion but that just tells you if the eye works or doesn't i know it works cause the truck runs. it just has a funny idle, hesatates, & studders up too 3K.

vacuum leak
sticking pvc vavle
does it do it cold or warm or both

Wanna say a futzy injector somewhere or a vac leak. Might want to make sure all your timing parts are in good working order if it's effected by the engine rev.

Seen the same thing on a similar year and pieced it apart before I found out it was a bit of buildup in the injector rail that just wouldn't break free. Cleaned up and still had issues, replaced the timing chain as well in the end and got it working.

i have sprayed the entire engine with intake cleaner no vac leaks.

It does it warm and cold.

Timing set it brand new. (gears, chain, guides, tentioner)

How would the PVC cause that to happen?

Injectors?

Here is where i get confused. it does it really bad when the timing is set correctly at 10° BTDC but it doesn't do it as bad when it is 20° BTDC but it still does it.

do you have cats on it still? could they be plugged? i believe ur engine is a speed density system and if so a faulty map sensor can cuz problems. seen it in chevy vechiles. they cost 35 for a chevy so its a cheap item. a sticking open pvc can allow more unmetered air to enter engine and cuz idle problems. if the timing chain is new are you postive ur not off a teeth? or with the disturbor pulled and part back in is it possible that the number 1 refence isnt match to number one compressor. not sure it the engine is fire all injectors at the same time or individale one at a time. if it fires one at a time that would cuz a problem. not sure how that engine is set up

cats are new and are high flow magnaflow. the map sensor is new. i asked my brother who put the motor togeather and he said that it was dead on. if the distributor was off a tooth it wouldn't have ran perfrect for two days then just went to crap. it would have ran like from crap from the get go.
