I want black rims, but I don't want to pay out the behind to get some new ones. Powder Coating mine seems like the best alternative.

So heres what I was thinking:

1)Get some powder coat. (Where can I find it? Cost?)
2)Get a powder coat spray gun. (Same question)
3)Spray down the rims.
4)Pop em in the house convection oven normally used for food.(Would that work?)

So what do you think?

i saw in the summit tool catalog they have a diy powdercoating kit. comes with the gun and i'm pretty sure everything else you will need. not sure about the baking process. i'd have to look at the catalog again when i get home. i was thinking about doing the same thing with my stock wheels, but i was just going to find somewhere to take them. only problem is, the ranger is my only vehicle and i only got 5 wheels (including spare)! i wonder how much that would cost anyway?

I looked on Summit and saw one powdercoating 'system' without media for $140. You can get wheels for cheaper than that, and they won't look like stock wheels.

Edit - Looks like phatcap beat me to it.

It's also not recommended to powdercoat in the same oven you eat from....

They will likely come out looking like ass. I just had a set of wheels powdered for 40 bucks a piece and the gun that my guy used cost over 3 grand.

+1
I was told this was a bad thing. There is some chemical that is released when the PC is baking and it will contaminate you oven. Although I don't know for sure but even still I wouldn't wanna find out.

Unless you really really like your wheels and just want them black, I'd get new ones. They're not much more new (depending what you get) and definitely cheaper used.

I know it isn't a Ranger but you get the idea

I have 45 dollars in sand blasting and 125 dollars in the powder coating of the rims
