parts arriving via USPS have been really slow a getting here. after some tracking I can see where all the postal woes are self inflicted.

case in point:

I'm in Toledo Ohio.
ordered part from Painsville Ohio. that's 27 miles NE of Cleveland and about 175 miles due east from me.

part goes away from me & Cleveland to Perry Ohio, only 10-15 miles further east, no big deal.

part now goes to Warrendale Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, that's another 100+ miles away from me.

part is sent to Detroit Michigan distribution center. that means it was on a truck and went right past Cleveland then actually went thru Toledo
on it's way to the Detroit facility.

part now has to come back to Toledo,,,, maybe

in summation, instead of simply going 170 miles west the part went 15 miles east, then 100+ miles southeast, then 250 miles northwest, still has to go 45 miles south to me.

another shipment, also still in progress:

part ordered from Akron Ohio

goes west to Medina Ohio

goes east back to Akron Ohio

goes north to Cleveland distribution center

moves next door to Cleveland distribution annex (that one I understand)

maybe sometime next week???

the REAL scary part is what happens to mail-in-ballots????
in several parts of Ohio the postal system takes mail out of Ohio.
it has already been documented that some ballots from Toledo never returned, or were delayed, in the Detroit center.

I've got an order in the USPS system now. For the last 8 days, tracking shows only that it is in transit from Dallas, TX. Dallas is about a 5 hour drive from me.

It moves at the speed of goverment, that is for sure.

I have some parts coming from Washington state, it seems it sits for 24hrs at every stop. Ordered last thursday, supposed to get it Friday.

Nothing pandemic related, it is always a week + to get anything from them. But they only ship USPS...

I think the USPS took the Hub and spoke concept from the airlines and companies like FedEx and UPS. Sent stuff to main distribution centers to be trucked or whatever to regional centers and further broken down and spread out from there. The "shared" load concept used to keep USPS viable doesn't help either where FedEx and UPS are used to pick up shipments and then turned over to USPS later for delivery doesn't help.

I hate it when I have a order that starts out with fedex then gets handed off to the post office. Anything I order from rockauto is at least 5 days out, even if they say it will come monday if I ordered wednesday, the tracking for fedex will show tues then sometimes change to a day later. Summit (akron oh, 110 miles from me) I can get next day if I order before 10am, it must come on a direct shipment. Had some dog clippers on order that came by mail. litterly took 3 months.

According to tracking when they do that to me UPS dumps it at my local post office so any extra strain for USPS would be the final sorting and delivery. Generally there is some political ad or bill or some other piece of trash they have to drop off anyway so it isn't like an extra trip for them.

It seems USPS/FedEx try to do as much as they can themselves usually.

USPS is a bit inefficient, but it used to be mostly due to the union an such. I worked as holiday help a few years and a big problem was the lack of people willing to run forklift or power pallet jack. Union said part time help wasn’t allowed to run equipment, but only certain types of employees and most of them didn’t want to do it. So it was a problem.

Now it seems routing is a major problem. Used to be that packages coming to me would hit Warrandale and then go to my post office since it’s the major one here (nevermind that there is a closer local post office). Now all of the packages hit Warrandale, then go to Pittsburgh, then to Zilenople, then Butler... so south, to north, to southeast...

I should mention that a tool I ordered the same day arrived last Saturday,,,,via UPS

If we sent @rusty ol ranger and @PetroleumJunkie412 to Antarctica via USPS, could we say that they went postal?

That's the government for you.

Hi. I ship exotic plants through the mail.

USPS calls Warrendale "the black hole."

Theres a 1 in 100 shot that if a package goes through there, it is never seen again.

Case in point: ive had plants get lost there, then arrive to their buyer six months later. Many were never delivered.

Your stuff went to warrendale. Just be thankful it was a wormhole this time, and not a black hole :icon_thumby:

The USPS, the organization that has had a business model of "we keep losing customers so we must raise the prices". :)
The Postal employees that I have dealt with personally have always been nice and considerate. Good people working in a bad system.
I'll say that the USPS may be slow but the packages almost always arrive in good shape.
