i start my truck this afternoon and some smoke comes out, whatever its cold just condensation it goes away after a 5 to 10 min longer than expected, i come home and let it sit couple hours and start it up more smoke definanlty not condesation and i have a lean mix code on obdII so its not running rich, it did overheat last weekend due to low fluid in radiator got pretty hot, checked plugs for fouling all pretty rough shape but no fouling other than normal long term-wear (kinda brown ceramic, worn electrodes and the like), i just bought this truck a couple months ago so im still kinda goin over stuff.

OBDII now shows a miss on cylinder four

number three cylinder plug however shows very slight metalic deposits, i know this is fairly indicative of detonation or preignition but the electrode is pretty pencil-tipped

if its detonation that would explain the blue smoke as it would have cracked ring lands and the sides of the piston would be damged and not sealing

-also to fix a miss you pretty much have to replace the coil pack correct?

-so could this be from electrode erosion or is it cylinder or piston damage?

any help would be awesome thanks

with the cost of the coil pack, replace the plugs and wires first. if you have a short in the # 4 wire or plug, it will show a misfire. it's not always the coil. overheating usually knocks out the gaskets... no fluid contamination? (i.e water in oil or any other contamination) it takes quite a bit to damage these engines. especially the lower end... so i doubt it has much to do with piston damage.

surprisingly no liquid fouling i thought for sure i would find some but all the plugs were completly dry, i'm gonna replace all plugs and wires there is some corrsion in the boots so hopefully thats the problem and it was a very small amount of metallic particulate so i'll just change the plugs and hope thats the end of that
