Possible gas leak

Sometimes when I am driving I can smell gas like there is a leak. I jacked the truck up and let it run for about 10 minutes and seen no signs of anything coming out of the gas tank and I didn't see any gas hit the ground. What else should I check? Also I don't know if this helps any but when I'm at a 1/4 of a tank or less my gas mileage goes horrible and it seems like that is when I smell the gas the most or atleast I think, I haven't drove the truck for a while.

Gas has a way of sticking to surfaces until there is a large amount collected. Check all the surfaces you can see for wet spots or dirty patches with relatively clean areas around them.
The other (and more likely) possibility is that the truck is running rich, sending unburned fuel out the exhaust. Many things can cause that.
Try to find the cause of whatever is wrong. Keep looking, but don't us a flame for light.:icon_thumby:

It is the nature of fuel gauges to move less when full than they do when low..
Has something to do with the sweep of the float inside the tanks. No your vehicle doesn't get worse milage when low on fuel and better milage when full..
If you do smell raw fuel you should be able to SEE the fuel at the leak location. The top of the fuel tank is a favorable location to find a leak. Also the TOP of the engine. If you are only looking under the vehicle, you'd have to have a huge leak for fuel to be dripping under there.

It doesn't seem to be running rich. It is just tad rich. I'm not sure how long it has been since the spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter has been changed so I am going to do all of that and it should be running normal.

Yea I know the float goes down faster when the fuel is lower, but last year when gas was cheap. When it was was in the 1.50's or so. I could fill the tank up for around 40 I'm pretty sure. Well when I would put 10 in the guage would be just a tad over 1/4 and it would burn the gas really fast. My MPG would be horrible. Then when I would fill it over 1/4 it would be a lot better.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys. I'll check it out here either today or tomorrow.
