when disassembling my 302 for maching, i noticed something very intersting about the oil supply holes for the main bearings. I talking about the one drilled into the block....ummm. There 2 of them per journal and it does NOT look factory. The bearing themeselves had one hole. Is something wrong with this?

It might be an aftermarket mod...be sure and ask the machine shop about it when you have your machine work done

Problem solved

ok the possible problem is gone...I look closer at everything and the extra hole will work for...it now looks factory cause of the casting "hump" that the holes runs through...also the main bearing have extra wide and narrow hole to uncover both supply holes....I just need to be more observent. not my strong point:no2: but now brings up a question...will oil pressure be lower?

I wouldn't think so....unless there's more places for the oil to exit....I know they added an xtra supply hole to reproduction harley m/c engines to help the bearings last longer....maybe it's the same principle......

No. Each of the mains has a short passage that directs some of the pressurized oil up to its adjacent cam bearing. That's what the second hole is.

as usual i wasn't thinking......old harley's have a separate oil line to the valve train annnd no oil pan!!!!

I need to guess less & shut up more!
