Hey I have a 2007 Ranger 4x4 sport with the 4.0L in it. I was changing the oil in my truck today so naturally I also checked all the other fluids. Everything checked out except the rear diff fluid witch is dark in color and gritty to the tuch….. The crappy thing about this is that I have already changed it once at about 25 thousand kms:icon_confused:. The vehicle now has just over 50 thousand Kms on it. I know for a fact that the fluid should not be bad already. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what this could be from. I do tow a small boat with the truck but nothing it can’t handle. I do suspect something could be wrong but I just don’t know what. Thanks for your time.

No the truck is a rebuild so it was reealy inxpencive. The savings far outway the no coverage. Chances are your not gunna put like 10 grand into a brand new truck in 60thousand k if you know what I mean:headbang: Yah some guy rolled it within the first week of havng it so I got a brand new truck for real cheep:yahoo: I should have said that :annoyed:

I'd change the oil again and take a close look inside at the gears and such. Then start saving your coins because it is probably on the way out. It would be easier to swap the whole rear from a junkyard, but I'd wait until it started making noise and then you know its about to shuck out.

I'd chang fluid, put a (big ol magnet) on the diff cover........
and run it till it explodes.
the magnet will collect this "grit" or metal shavings. (you should have one stock but more won't hurt)

Past that, if the truck was cheap enough, you can find another rearend in the future for about a hundred bucks at a yard. and still have no reason to complain.

Frank

BTW my 97 was a total rebuild to!!! wrecked at 26k..... have had it for almost ten years. still rocking on.

I like the magnet idea hahah totaly guna do that and just hope for the best :headbang:

It's possible that water got into the diff too.
