Popped a spark plug

Apparently, the 'knocking' noise I've been hearing for quite some time, turns out to be a popped spark plug. Has anyone else had this happen on their 4.0 OHV? The spark plug finally popped all the way out yesterday while hubby and I were on our way fishing.

Scares the hell out of you don't it? Suddenly there is this horrible noise from under the hood.. Not on a ford but I've had older chevies do it several times in the past years.

Yeah, it was very scary when that noise just all of a sudden got a hell of a lot louder! I mean like tank rollin' by loud!

Welllll, the head threads where that plug came out are stripped. Won't hold a new spark plug in tight at all. Still making the knocking noise that it had before. Dealer wants $1200 for a heli-coil job, and they said that's no guarantee of getting rid of the knocking. OR they said they could do a used engine swap for, get this.....$2600!!! I'm totally flabbergasted. How can these places get away with that!!!!!

Anyways, I'm at a loss for what to do now. I am gonna pick it up, drive it home and park it, if I even make it that far before the new plug they put in vibrates out.

I have so many options, but its the $$$$$$$ that's the problem. Anybody have suggestions???!!!!

First I'd use one of the spark plug RETHREADERS that are available at your parts house.. If that didn't work I'd helicoil it myself.. Shouldn't cost more than twenty bucks.. If that didn't work I'd JB Weld it, if that didn't work I'd visit my junk yard and get another head and install it myself cost less than a hundred bucks for the gasket kit.

I looked up at autozone, the store I shop at most, and the kit they have is for aluminum heads only...
