I'm getting a pop/click sound coming from under my truck. It does it when I go through the gutter slow or occasionally when it shifts. I just did the RA bushings to cure a squeak and it did it prior to those being changed as well. I jacked it up the other day and it sounded like the noise was coming from somewhere near the cross member. When I get under there this weekend, what should I specifically be looking for? How do identify if the trans mount is bad? Will it be blatantly obvious? Any other suggestions?

Push up while holding the output of the t-case. If it moves, the tranny bushing is bad.

I've had similar sounds after changing RA bushings and it turned out that the bushings were building and releasing tension when the suspension articulated. It didn't move smoothly because I hadn't added any grease to the bushings. Maybe try smearing grease across them where they make contact and see if that helps. It made all the difference in the world on my truck.

OK, I might sound partially retarded, but by bushing you are referring to the trans mount right?

There is grease in there, but I wondered if it was enough. I'll check that too.

I got under it and checked the trans mount, and the RA bushings. I can't find a damn thing wrong. The noise is driving me insane not knowing what it is. Any ideas?

It's not unusual for the cross member itself to make noise. Check the driver side bolt that attaches to the frame. There was a tsb years ago that involved putting a "bearing strip" between the frame and cross member to prevent it. It flexes a lot there. Sometimes just tightening the bolt helps.

Also, its not uncommon for stress cracks to develop on the crossmember around where the bushings mount. This can lead to squeeking and poping when the suspension articulates. I personally have had this happen...

Moog makes replacement radius arm crossmembers in separate sides for this reason.
