this summer i bought a house. well working outside i am trimming my bushes when i see one of my neighbors drive by in a i think 84 mustang svo. i think, cool.

over the summer i see him do peel outs and various stupid stuff with the car
and i just shake my head and go about my business.

well today i pull in my driveway and see him punch the gas hard like he typically does. but this time the mustang goes no where and stalls. i hear it and its running bad.

well looks like he has it on craigslist now. if you live in stlouis stay away from this one. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/1975414684.html

huh... I was looking at that car on CL, but I thought he wanted way to much for it. Glad I know that he has abused it, and I'm not sure about the 45,000 original miles. I had an 88 Turbo Coupe and that thing had 188,000 on it and it ran like new, so those Turbo 4's can be tough to judge since they last forever

well i was out working in my garage when he drove by. he seems to have gotten the running issues ironed out but i wouldnt think it worth 4300 either. i i have seen the car first hand

He may have stalled it but that dont mean nothing. And 4300 is def worth it but not to the average buyer. But even if he had run it into the ground, its still worth buying becase the 2.3l are a dime a dozen and easy to rebuild.

just because someone burns out in a car means it is abused? Seriously it is turbocharged, do you really think many people with high HP/forced induction cars drive them like grannies?

Agreed, spinning the tires is not necessarily mean abuse, it just means they have a car and use it to its full potential. With that said though, that price is a bit high unless that thing is totally cherry or a die hard svo fan can't find anything else in the area.

If there is no reason to do it is a good indicator that they regularly beat on it. Even then, aside from preheating the tires before a drag race I can't think of a good reason to do it.

We have morons that come out infront of where I work (on a really steep hill) and burn out, all they get is laughs. Nothing impressive about having to stand on both pedals to squeel the tires.

A SVO is not all that high hp, a NA fourbanger in an econobox isn't that far off from them now. A stock '84 SVO is 175hp, a peaky 10 more than a OHV 4.0 Ranger.

Me personally... I would never spend that kind of money on a fox but to each their own. :icon_thumby:

I guess I could have used a different word, I'll try "well used" next time. I can't say that I have never burned out, and I consider my cars in good shape, except my mustang. It is abused. I bought it 6 years ago, when I was 19, and I drove the living piss out of that car. Sure, I changed the oil and stayed on top of the maintenance, but stuff still breaks when it is being "well used". I have been through 2 clutches, many sets of tires, and finally the engine gave up, or at least started smoking really bad(I give some credit to the previous owner who didn't do ANY maintenance). So I parked it about 3 years ago, and I am just now swapping an engine into it.

I say that to say this, if the kid was burning out with no one around, you know that he was doing crazier stuff when other people were around. Been there done that got the hat, T-shirt, and bumper sticker. Is it "well used"? I guess that depends on who you ask. For me it is. Am I still willing to buy a "well used" car... absolutely. But not an SVO for $4300

This shows how in depth your knowledge actually is. There is more to an SVO than just horsepower, such as handling improvements, it will out track any v8, and it had just as much horsepower as the GT of the same year. They also have interior upgrades, that you cant find in any other models. Not to mention they were limited production. Very hard to find in any condition let alone mint. The SVO motors were built stronger, so even though factory power is limited, the potential was alot higher than standard 4 bangers. Some of the SVO with turbos swaps only are hittin 300+hp. Safely. To anybody who is not an obsessed mustang nut, an SVO is just another special model like an 03 cobra. But to an afficianado, it is a little bag of gold. Kinda like the 1993 Cobra R. Alot of people say it aint worth the price for a 1993 with no radio,no air, no power. But theres more to it than that.

Nothing about it entertains me.

I could get a newer car that would surpass it easily for the same or less money. Looking at numbers and even the interior upgrades, my '90 Laser beat it on most counts... and costs much less.

If I wanted to get a collector car, it wouldn't look like a Tempo.

Sorry, I guess if everyone liked them they would be worth even more...:dntknw:

Everyone doesnt like them, thats one of the things that makes it so cool. Its very hard to explain.

Especially to someone that doesn't like them. :icon_twisted:

I know what you mean though. :icon_thumby:

BTW, my previous statement about not having that much power was in referance to Grunizzle post. I was just saying that in stock form it really isn't a really hot car by modern standards. 175hp isn't really jaw-dropping anymore.

In 1984 it was however, The SVO would run neck and neck with the same year Mustang GT and of course lose it in the twisties. In 1985 1/2 the hp jumped to 205.

The reason it wasn't more successful was because the price for a SVO was a lot higher than a Mustang GT so buyers stuck with what they knew and understood, the 5.0 V8.
