Pneumatic tires for a rollaway tool chest?

I have this craftsman tool chest, and while I love the wheels on the bottom, they don't do a great job of moving through grass. I'm getting ready to move, and I'll need to drag this 8 million pound tool chest across grass more than once to get it to it's new location. I was wondering if anyone had any input on where to look for pneumatic tires for this beast?

I did that search before, but none of the listings had anything about the size of the plate on the top of the caster, thus the reason for the post. Thanks though man.

Try looking at McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/#) or a similar supplier, they're usually good about publishing dimensions of parts like that.

If it were me moving a large tool box, I would use a few sheets of plywood, lay them down on the grass and roll the tool box on top of that, and just keep moving the sheets to in front of the tool box. In the end, I think you'd be happier since you would probably spend less on the wood than casters and I'm not sure the pneumatic casters would work all that well anyway unless they were just massive. And, having a couple sheets of plywood around would be more useful than a set of casters, unless you had another use for the casters.

just treat it like a piece of heavy furniture. take all the drawers out and move it in pieces.

Ya might try Tractor Supply or Rural King. I think they have online catalougs (sp)

Our Chinese friends at Harbor have the best selection on the shelf.....but your box will fall over in grass/dirt.....the plywood plan is the best...just overlap the ends of the plywood so the hard wheels don't drop between the edges

unless you're really set on air tires....which are great on concrete.....I put em under my engine stand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought a new set of casters for my fathers motorcycle jack from a site called castercity.com their stuff is well built and reasonably priced.

like a colleague said to plywood on the ground is going to be useful

If I was you i would make a wider metal frame for the bottom of the tool chest and mount the wheels as far out as possible.....have ou ever dumped a 600 pound chest of tool in the grass?

I agree with a couple ideas above, but the safest would be to remove all the drawers and move the cabinet empty...While this might take a little longer, it can be done with just one person and will not necessitate spending any money on any supplies that you may only use just once...

I take it that just backing a trailer up to the garage isn't an option.

I WISH! A gravel driveway, and a gravel walk path to the shed through a gate don't make it ideal to push this puppy very far, or back a trailer up for that matter.

I'd love pneumatic casters, but I'll have to save my pennies... Looking at about 100 bucks, but I'm pretty sure it'll be worth it in the end for me.

Walk through gate? What's the effort of removing a portion of fence and backing up across the gravel walkway/lawn compared to your opinion of your other best option? In addition, what other items are going to be more easily moved by being able to drive a motor vehicle (Ranger) directly to the shed?

If it was me, that fence would be temporarily removed. Unless a landlord is going to throw a temper tantrum, of course.

I just bought a craftsman ball bearing tool chest myself. I'm hoping next year to raise the level of my garage floor, in which I'll need to move the beast. does those drawers come out pretty easily?
